During World War II, Uruguay maintained a neutral stance, refraining from direct involvement in the conflict. Despite its geographic distance from the main theaters of war, Uruguay was not immune to its effects. The war had significant repercussions on the country's economy and society.
Uruguay experienced economic challenges due to disruptions in global trade and fluctuations in commodity prices. The conflict also sparked political tensions domestically, with debates over the nation's neutrality and its implications. There were instances of political polarization, reflecting broader international divisions. Despite its neutral stance, Uruguay provided some support to the Allies through diplomatic channels and by contributing resources such as food and raw materials. Additionally, the country served as a refuge for European immigrants fleeing persecution, particularly Jewish refugees.
Uruguay's involvement in World War II primarily revolved around maintaining its sovereignty and stability amidst the global turmoil. After the war, Uruguay played a role in the establishment of international organizations like the United Nations, contributing to efforts to prevent future conflicts and promote global cooperation.

To complement from Wiki ヽ(͡◕ ͜ʖ ͡◕)ノ 🍀 🇧🇷 : "Cisplatina was a Brazilian province in existence from 1821 to 1828 created by the Luso-Brazilian invasion of the Banda Oriental. From 1815 until 1822 Brazil was a constituent kingdom of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves." Obrigado, Stefan!

Uruguay is pronounced more like (approx.): 'er[d]o-WHY' (or [less-often]: 'er[d]o-WAY'), just for your information.

You should read about the Uruguayan civil war and what happened to the Uruguayan city of Paysandú ( the city is refered to has Paysandú the heroic) from December 1864 to January 1865. One thousand city defenders against 15000. Most of the 15000 were made up of troops of the empire of Brazil alongside Uruguayan rebels. Even the Brazilian imperial navy was involved. They say they fired many artillery shells into the city. From across the river, the people in Argentina could see the siege but the Argentine government did not get involved since they seemed to prefer the Uruguayan rebels (the main leader of this group and supporters had crossed over from Argentina). After much destruction to the city, the defenders in the end agreed to give up. However, the winners got nasty and eliminated many of the leadership and defenders. At that time the US was having its own civil war. ] The Uruguayan civil war led Paraguay to intervene on the side of the Uruguayan legal government. In the end, that led to the war of the triple alliance (Paraguayan war) from Octuber 1864 to March 1871. Argentina, Empire of Brazil and the new leaders of Uruguay against Paraguay.

Another wonderful historical coverage episode about the recent history of Uruguay 🇺🇾 since its independent 1811 from Spain 🇪🇸 empire, annexation by Brazil 🇧🇷, confederation with Argentina 🇦🇷, finally total independent , weakened intervention by Nazism Germany, fascism Italy. During WW2...it seems to me Uruguay had wisdom politicians ,they preserved neutrality During desperate circumstances .. thank you for an amazing ( history Hustle) channel .introduced by 🙏 ( Sir Stefan) ...good luck

I think there’s a British war film from the late 1950s about the Battle of the River Plate. ‘The film's storyline concerns the Battle of the River Plate, an early World War II naval engagement in 1939 between a Royal Navy force of three cruisers and the German pocket battleship Admiral Graf Spee’.
