I gave my graveyard flashback after someone killed my Scary Teferi which enabled him to use his 3 counters in his hand...but i had 3 counters in the grave and 2 in hand. Easy to see, he wasn't winning this counter war lol.

I don’t think that people actually have a problem with it being a compact win, it’s just that it can get old seeing which decks people pick and knowing that the Thrasios/Tymna deck running the consultation combo is going to win. This game was really great with some awesome back and forth, but still boiled down to the same predictable ending. The combo isn’t bad in cEDH, it just gets boring to watch time after time.

Assuming that the only card we KNOW Nate had in hand at the time was mana drain I feel like he maybe should have cast that evacuation. He would loose his construct which isn't ideal but as he wasn't really set up to win the next turn anyway from the looks of it I feel like wasting mana re-casting Urza would have hurt him less than recasting their boards would hurt everyone else. So, this was a really good game. I enjoyed the back and forth and the counterspell war. At the end of the day, it was still a deck winning with Thrasios and demonic consultation. No matter how good the sequencing and play is, every game seems to come down to someone running Thrasios and drawing out the entire deck. There needs to be better variety in the decks played on this channel. I don’t understand why Braden would cast Mana Crypt on turn 1 when he can’t cast anything after it. You just risk yourself losing 3 life on your next upkeep. And he did lose 3 life. Unless he keeps his opponents play Stax cards.
@Zzectbu4 жыл бұрын
While it's generally a bad idea to play a Mana Crypt that you can't do anything with right away in casual Commander, in cEDH it's a very different issue because wheels, Mystic Remora and Trinisphere are all things that can and semi-frequently do happen on Turn 1. The extra two mana a turn from Mana Crypt is so valuable in a cEDH game that the minor downside of playing a Crypt when you can't use it right away is far preferable to risking your opponents either drawing cards off your Crypt or - even worse - wheeling while it's stuck in your hand.
@xgxwills28574 жыл бұрын
The way my playgroup never misses triggers is that you have to have your artifacts on the battlefield next to where your creatures are basically. Otherwise, we would probably miss 60% of all the triggers.
@dirtpickingusa87864 жыл бұрын
I see this done frequently, I never understand why someone would play mana crypt on T1 if they don't have a play to utilize this mana? Why not wait to play it on your next turn and save yourself the potential 3 life loss? I guess weigh the pros/cons of protecting it by keeping it in your hand vs protecting it from being countered on T2?
@Dune3554 жыл бұрын
i thought about this too and I think the best reason to play it is, if you fear a t1 island mana crypt windfall play. which is not likely, but maybe worth losing 1,5 life to be save
@Zzectbu4 жыл бұрын
While in this particular game it didn't really make a difference, T1 rocks into wheel is a serious risk, and Mystic Remora is a frequently played card. Trinisphere is also something to watch out for from Urza. Given these potentially very bad outcomes from waiting, the risk of an extra 3 damage is well worth it.
@mikestephens2674 жыл бұрын
If you play it before - It gets around Spell Pierce effects, it doesn't get pitched if someone Wheel of Fortunes, Windfall's or Burning Inquiry's. It stops people from drawing due to Rhystic, or Remora. It gets around Trinsphere and helps to mitigate Rule of Law. It allows you to use colorless mana on your next upkeep in case you do something like Crypt, Land, Birds of Paradise - and then your opponent drops Tabernacle. And fewer counters are online. Paying on average 1.5 life vs the availability of having 2 extra mana seems like a fantastic deal. 40 Life is a huge resource, don't view it like people viewed Necro in the early days (The Magazine Inquest rated it the worst card in the set - imagine paying life for cards???).
@cEDHCast4 жыл бұрын
Braden here! 2/3 opponents played wheels, 3/3 play remora, 1/3 play stax effects that make crypt harder to cast. It’s worth the average 1.5 life to me to play it early.
