Get Out was about race US is about class inequality There are so many crazy details in this movie, some of my favorites are: Lupitas character has no rhythm when she tries to sing a long to the 5 on it song but yet she was a professional dancer, which indicates it was her underground version that was the talented dancers She also doesn't eat meat because she grew up eating rabbits You also see her gradually turning more feral through the film The underworld son has a burnt face because the surface world version keeps lighting a lighter in his face but it never works, well in the underground it did light and he basically burned his face off over time.

@@kevink9764 I love NOPE. It is more confusing to some bc it is much more open ended in terms of meaning. But what I’ve come to see it is both a biblical analogy as well as a tale of exploitation. All of the animals in NOPE follow the trend of being used and exploited to make humans rich. Hence the entire theme of them being horse owners, from the races to the commercials, etc. The Gordy chimp situation represents the entire film. Humans trying to tame the wild, yet the wild is untamable and will remind you of that. Actually how the same boy who thought he could tame a ravaging ape, to trying to tame a extraterrestrial and trying to use it for profit of the show. And just like Gordy, it’s nature could not be controlled. All in pursuit of the spectacle of seemingly taking the untamable.

@@kevink9764 the biblical aspect comes in from that scripture at the beginning of the film, Nahum 3:6 “I will cast abominable filth upon you, Make you vile, And make you a spectacle.” And the design of the extraterrestrial on its final form is said to like look what a certain biblically accurate angel looks like. What I got from all of that is the extraterrestrial itself is an analogy of a angel “cast” from Heaven and made a “spectacle” for humanity of which its feeds on.

So the rabbits are used symbolically throughout the film. In one sense, they symbolize rebirth - the Tethered trying to start a new chapter on the surface. And in a dual sense, rabbits are often used as test subjects - the Tethered were essentially a forgotten experiment.

One of the reasons Addy was seen as the chosen one is because she’s the only one that can talk, the tethered never learned speech that’s why they communicate with growls and hand motion. Addy grew up as a tethered, growing more feral as the years went on yet had a “developed” mind to aim at a goal. Red grew up becoming a normal person, slowly losing her feral nature however as the events of the night went on she started coming back to that feral instinct. When she killed one of the twins she was panting and growling, when she killed Addy she growled again. - As creepy and unsettling this movie is it’s still one of the best horrors!

Loved how this was using Clones as an allegory to class divide. It also took me months to notice all of the horror references. (Friday The 13th= Jason wearing a mask, The Shining= how the twins were set up when they were killed, Funny Games= Golf club being used as a weapon and the dad getting hit in the knee, C.H.U.D.= The tethered coming out from the ground, etc.)

Jordan Peele is one the best contemporary directors and his casting choices are phenomenal. This is my favorite from him so far, because it's such a layered film. Lupita was robbed during award season, because she gave easily one of the best performances I've seen in a long time.

I happen to find this movie more sad than horrifying and it's difficult to rewatch it. In the final scenes when "Adelaide" kills Red, this should be a moment of triumph. She's bested the beast. However, when Red starts calling back to a tune from her childhood, it's so sad. Yes, what "Adelaide" did was wrong by usurping Reds position in the upper world. But it's totally understandable as to why she would see it as her only option. She lived the beginning or her life in abject misery and the opportunity to crawl out of it would be difficult for anyone to not jump at. Yet, Red was right; "Adelaide" did not have to take her place. They could've emerged into the upper worlds together and they both would have benefitted. But sometimes, that seems more difficult than standing on someone else's back to emerge victorious. Good movie. (Also! I love that Thriller gave someone else nightmares lol it also gave me a lifetime fear of zombies, thanks Michael!)

While this movie is a lot more vague with its points on class and with the answers it provides to the actual mystery than Get Out was, the EMOTIONS this film evokes are something that’s really special. I remember looking back on the feelings I felt during the home invasion scene, the sit down, the reveal of the plan, the AMAZING “I Got 5 on It” fight scene, and the final scene in the car, and knowing this movie is messier but in it’s abstractness it just sucks you in all the more. Solid follow up from Jordan Peele, can’t wait to see Nope!

The boy was also switched during the fire at grandmom's house. The twins thought he was weird. He had no rhythm (like the switched mom) yet the jumpsuit one did? Dad comments on son's new vocabulary (maybe learned from switched mom). The jumpsuit son's face is burned up as if he was in a house fire, he actually knows how to use a lighter while the other struggles. jumpsuit mom grunts and clicks to her family members yet speaks words to jumpsuit son and also jumpsuit mom was quick to grab the other son and bring him back to the underground.

In a perfect world,Lupita as "Red" deserved the Oscar. She even said that when she was "Red" not even the crew members dared to look or talk to her. Just to make it clear,the kids are unique,they are a mix between both worlds. The ones from down under have the skills,the ones from above can control their shadows. That's why you can see the "red" girl running faster and also the "normal"boy leading his shadow to fire.

So just to blow your mind even more, Jordan Peele likes to put things in there that he wants you to figure out without the movie ever telling you. In this movie, it's that fact that the son is also a tethered. Remember that he always snaps his fingers in reverse. They said he was "never the same since that incident". The son loved playing with fire, and he burned the house up back then. That's the incident that they're talking about and remember the other sons FACE WAS BURNED UP. The mom switched the sons after that incident. Why do you think he didn't say anything about her being a tethered at the end. The mask he wears is a form of symbolism in the movie, showcasing that he isn't who we think he is. And him putting it on at the end was poetic. There's more but I'd have to rewatch the movie to bring up more of the evidence of him being a tethered

I agree most people don't pick this up but it's actually pretty obvious. When he makes the burned face kid walk into the fire it doesn't make sense to the audience at that point in time. Then you learn in the final confrontation that the tethered control the people above ground. So once you get that bit of information it should click right away. The thing is so much shit is going on at the end of this movie and everyone is so stunned they forget about the fire scene. Her reveal overshadows his.

@@kiras.5404 LOL, you missed like the key twist of the movie. The tunnel-Adelaide girl took the normal world-Adelaide's place in the first scene (but we're not shown that until the end). That's why tunnel-Adelaide, who was now with the normal world parents, didn't speak at first. But eventually she learned, she adapted, and her memories of early child-hood (as it would be for a 5-6 year old) faded away as she was brought up in basically a normal family. The normal world-Adelaide, however, was brought from a (still let's call it normal) family, and put into a hell hole, chained up, surrounded by seemingly crazy people, and with the psychic connection to the tunnel-Adelaide now living her life, realizing what she was missing out on throughout the years.. yes, I say she spent several years just screaming.

The ending scene with the Mother driving and the son in the passenger seat is great acting. They look at each other, terrified because the son is thinking “is this my mom” and mom is thinking “is this my son”. He pulls his mask down and she looks forward because each one knows, if they say anything, they might find out that one of the other is not real. It’s best for them not to know and always have that suspicion in their minds.

But when the “son” got out of the car, put his arms out and walked backwards, the other son mimicked him into the fire. Notice the mother screaming “No” because she didn’t know which one was her real son as he was backing up into the fire. The tethered wanted to kill their their counterpart. Were they switched earlier? It could have happened while they were in the closet together. There were several opportunities. But him looking at her with suspicion and then slowly pulls down his mask, without talking, is very significant. That’s part of the horror aspect. You don’t know and neither the son or the mother know. It’s confusing, yes, but that’s part of the genius.

I'd highly recommend watching "Us Ending Explained" as there's a tonne of stuff even the most eagle eyed viewer misses on the first viewing. I don't normally like to see someone explain a film but this really does add to the experience

Ngl I’ve seen this movie about 9 times in theaters. I was having a very difficult time in my life (was raped), and all I wanted to do was go watch this move over and over and over. I know that this usually isn’t considered JP’s best work, but for me, it’ll always hold a special place in my heart. The final fight scene with Adelaide and Red is forever seared in my memory.

The biggest critic I saw was that it was playing more on scares and horror elements than Get Out. Apparently it's "the easy way" while they think Get Out was "way better" cause it didn't rely on those things. I don't see why that bothers some people, but it does. I'm not among them. I love all Peele's movies. They're all awesome despite being different.

Things I love about Jordan Peele movies: 1) The symbolism/social commentary/plotlines 2) The acting 3) The music 4) The in-jokes where his movie titles are what we would yell at the screen (Get Out, Nope (when Nikki would say "nope... hell naw..." I was thinking "no, that's his third movie!"). We used to sing "I got 5 on it" down the halls in high school, and I went to college in Santa Cruz, so this movie brought back some fond memories but also messed up my young adulthood.

I also remember when there was discourse about the son also being the tethered too but idk if that was confirmed. Although I like full conclusions in movies, I am sometimes okay with just having theories of what happened. What could have come right after they drove off? To the family? The whole world? If you pay attention, you'll notice that during the final battle Red is way more physically capable than Adelaide - who, as she grows increasingly frustrated by this, starts becoming more animalistic. That's intended to show their true origins. The tethered have less motor function skill than the humans above. Red can run circles around Adelaide because she's the "real one". And even in her final moments, she taunts her by whistling at her - something the tethered aren't capable of. That's her way of reminding her that SHE's the real one.

I CANNOT WAIT for y'all to watch Nope!!! Its SO GOOD, I dare even say it's my favorite Peele film so far. The sound design, the cinematography, the way he's able to FLAWLESSLY weave comedy throughout......it's EXCELLENT!! I saw it a few times in Dolby and have already watched it 3 times at home and it just doesn't get old. In fact, it gets better with every viewing! This was a lot of fun to watch again with y'all. Some weren't as into Us as Get Out but like you, I was a big fan of Us as well. You're so right, the acting was superb! Looking forward to the next movie night, it's always such a good time🤘🏻

Facts about US: 1. Lupita's tethered version creepy voice was voiced by Peele himself because in the bts, Peele voice her mix of her voice to make something creepy. Peele also cameos his own movies like the injured deer in Get Out and the dying rabbit in Us. 2. The Bible verse about Jeremiah 11:11 is important because in the Bible, Jeremiah warn people about their sins and God will come to punish them or do something terrible heading their way to all the sinners. Like Red the tethered Addy believes herself to be chosen by God to lead the Untethering. 3. Spoiler: the ending is way creepier because both Addy and Red switch places when they were children so Addy is the real Tethered doppelganger and Red is the real Addy. The hands across America stuff is metaphor of a commentary on race, gender, class and mental illness.
