US Abrams tanks seen fighting in Ukraine for first time

American Abram tanks have been seen in combat in Ukraine for the first time, with footage showing them firing at Russian positions outside Avdiivka.
The video clip released by Ukraine’s 47th Separate Mechanised Brigade on Friday showed the snow-covered US-made tank firing at Russian positions.
It was revealed that the fighting machine was in operation on the outskirts of Avdiivka, the eastern industrial town recently surrounded by Ukraine.

The Abrams was designed to be the last tank standing after a nuclear war with the crew scavenging any type of fuel they could find to feed its hungry turbine engine. T90 was designed to swarm NATO defenses and be easily replaceable. Funny thing is, Russia cannot produce enough T72s/T90s for the tanks to be easily replaceable, and Abrams is not operating in a post-nuclear environment where it can take advantage of its multi-fuel compatibility. The best tanks on the current battlefield are the Challengers and Leopards that can eat explosive rounds like an Abrams and run for a long time without refuel like a T72.

They seem to have managed it well. Western equipment such as tanks are issued solely to select brigades. These were chosen prior to training. The 82nd Air Assault Brigade has the challenger 2, for example. Mechanics attached to that tank division have all been trained on maintaining the challenger 2. They belong to the 82nd. Wherever the 82nd gets deployed the challengers go - including the logistics chain to support, arm and maintain them. It isn’t randomly dished out.

That gave them a massive edge, letting Abrams tanks do their thing against Iraqi armor. Now, in Ukraine, it's a whole different story. The Ukrainians are up against a Russian force with serious air power and some pretty advanced anti-tank stuff. So, even if the Ukrainians were top-notch tank crews, they're still facing a tough situation with the Russians holding air superiority. Bottom line? Air superiority makes a huge difference. It's not just about tank crews being good or bad-it's about the bigger picture, and right now, the Ukrainians are dealing with some serious challenges beyond just crew training.

Another channel (Military Summary) published a video of another Abrams that was destroyed as it was clearing mines. The video shows how the Russians were tracking every move the tank in this video was making. So, expect by now the tank, along with logistics hub, have all been hit by a couple Iskander and/or Tornado long-range MLRS rounds, which fires mostly anti-vehicle cluster rounds... each munition has 15 submunitions which independently detect and target large metal objects. Tanks are largely obsolete; their logistics (repair and fuel) make them counterproductive in many battles. They are increasingly being used as troop carriers.

There as fast as a Leo with or without du. I've had mine up to almost 50mph . I've passed bongo trucks on the highway in Korea in an Abrams tank.

Basically, whenever ukraine loses a major battle, they have to something big that'd distract the civilian population, like how Russia captured Bakhmut early last year, ukraine launcehd its major counteroffensive to try and distract it's population over that, and when that counteroffensive failed, they started saying "We shot down x amount of Russian jets today" without any photograph evidence. With the Russian victory in Adiivka, ukraine pulls out one of its new toys and goes "Hey look, this badass western tank is fighting on the frontlines!!!!11!!!" But, like the challenger it will spend most of it's time in a warehouse, because if a single abrams is destroyed it will be a massive PR failure.

The U.S. military M1 Abrams with classified Uranium armor weights 60 tons the one Ukraine was given are different generations and they are lighter because they dont have the uranium armor the Leopard tanks in Ukraine weigh 62 tons this was the easiest thing to search

​@_Kommissar_ yep, current US versions weigh well over 73 tons with combat loads. Generally correct that modern tanks since Vietnam era struggle off road. Any tank rettriver unit from any country knows that tanks get stuck on almost anything, and often.
