@robynrobison40503 ай бұрын
Just an FYI, I was an F-16 avionic tech when I was in the Air Force, our tech school was a year long for all new F-16 avionic techs. And, all our allies that buy F-16s for their Air Force also go through the same 1 year of training that is 8 hours of training daily for entire year. And, all pilots get a minimum of 37 weeks of training before they'd even be considered to fly combat mission. As we speak, I'm certain there are Ukraine military attending training here in the USA so they'll be capable to troubleshot and repair the 130+ computer systems in an F-16. Just because they can get planes does not mean they've had adequate training to fly them and keep them flying. I'm sure US and allies could have shipped them a year ago, but they still needed to be trained to keep them operational. especially if there's a shortage of replacement parts. It takes continuous repairs to keep any jet operational. I'm sure that has a lot to do as to why jets like the F-16 are not dispersed quicker like other weaponry and munitions that Ukraine has received in the past. I taught the year long course for 4 years while I was in the Air Force and had students from Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Belgium, S Korea, Greece and quite a few other countries that send their F-16 avionic techs to the USA to be trained. So, I'm quite familiar as to the lengthy training required to be remotely combat ready.
@chrispowers55683 ай бұрын
@@robynrobison4050 Ukraine is sending combat pilots not green new pilots. NATO is also accelerating their training schedule. As for repairs. I’m sure Ukraine has hired ex military experienced contractors to help with repairs. Just like there are foreign fighters in Ukraine there are foreign support contractors working. Let’s just admit even an average pilot who isn’t an ace will still make a difference flying an advanced fighter jet

It is a shame Canada is not paying its share. Adm. Rob Bauer, NATO's top military officer, recently shared that NATO countries including Canada, must do more to prepare for war. The thought of war must be considered even as we do not want to imagine it. Many want this Ukraine war to go away, but that does not appear to be happening anytime soon. The NATO Admiral gave a 50 year time frame. “The tectonic plates of world power are shifting, and when that happens "earthquakes" / war is all but inevitable.” The younger "me" generation wants no risk while they focus on comforts/pleasures of life. This mentality must be checked given the war, growing threats and unprecedented tension we see in Europe and the Asia Pacific. He also argued that the private sector must consider security and defence into its calculus and practices. Supplies can be cut off by foreign companies who become adversaries. Businesses must work with the government to find solutions to the problem and not be merely focused on money. Younger people (men) should consider enlisting in the Canadian Reserves to bolster our defence stance out of service to their country. I can say there is true honor serving in the Canadian Army Reserves for 2 years myself. Sadly, it has been reported from Ukraine, that many young men are hiding from conscription in their girlfriends houses, or draft dodging in other ways. God forbid that kind of cowardice would be named among "strong and free Canadians." "It is not that far away." He said. A recent weapons factory fire in Germany was linked to enemy activity. Potential conscription into the military service is no longer inconceivable in our day and age. We must think about it. If we want peace, we must be prepared to bolster defence and security even as we pray for peace and truly hate the idea of war. We have studied the tragedy of WW2 and the Cold War. May God help us and keep our land glorious and free as we stand on guard thee.

The specs on the Jaguar are here The SEPECAT Jaguar is an Anglo-French supersonic jet attack aircraft originally used by the British Royal Air Force and the French Air Force in the close air support and nuclear strike role. It is still in service with the Indian Air Force. Jaguar A French Air Force Jaguar completes air-to-air refueling over the Adriatic Sea Role Attack aircraft National origin France/United Kingdom Manufacturer SEPECAT (Breguet/BAC) Built by SEPECAT First flight 8 September 1968 Introduction 1973 Retired 2005 (France) / 2007 (UK) / 2014 (Oman) Status In service with Indian Air Force Primary users Indian Air Force Royal Air Force (historical) French Air Force (historical) Royal Air Force of Oman (historical) Produced 1968-1981 Number built 573[1] Originally conceived in the 1960s as a jet trainer with a light ground attack capability, the requirement for the aircraft soon changed to include supersonic performance, reconnaissance and tactical nuclear strike roles. A carrier-based variant was also planned for French Navy service, but this was cancelled in favour of the cheaper, fully French-built Dassault-Breguet Super Étendard. The aircraft were manufactured by SEPECAT (Société Européenne de Production de l'avion Ecole de Combat et d'Appui Tactique), a joint venture between Breguet and the British Aircraft Corporation, one of the first major joint Anglo-French military aircraft programmes. The Jaguar was exported to India, Oman, Ecuador and Nigeria. The aircraft was used in numerous conflicts and military operations in Mauritania, Chad, Iraq, Bosnia, and Pakistan, as well as providing a ready nuclear delivery platform for the United Kingdom, France, and India throughout the latter half of the Cold War and beyond. In the Gulf War, the Jaguar was praised for its reliability and was a valuable coalition resource. The aircraft served with the French Air Force as the main strike/attack aircraft until 1 July 2005, and with the Royal Air Force until the end of April 2007. Its role was replaced by the Eurofighter Typhoon in the RAF and the Dassault Rafale in the French Air Force. Keep in mind Ukraine is receiving 80 f-16s. Currently they only have about 30 pilots who can actually fly them. Also, Russian air defense systems that will basically render the f-16s useless because they have to fly at low altitudes to avoid being shot down, which makes their weapon systems which work best at high altitudes kind of useless. They're training more pilots here in the US in Arizona. It takes about 9 months training course. I don't think this is going to go very well.

@Eric_Von_Zipper3 ай бұрын
You have made some valid points. The Ukrainians have been targeting those air defense systems of late with drones. So the russians have been pulling those systems back further. Also, my understanding is that they are going to do what the russians have been limited to doing, as to not come under Ukrainian air defense. Use glide bombs that are released further behind the lines and glide to to their targets. The Ukrainians have shown themselves to be pretty resourceful. They managed to sink the russian flagship without a Navy. So, hopefully they can do the same for their F-16's.

They have the ability to get a pilot graduated with 100 flight hrs in 13 weeks, send them to a the NFWS or the F-16 FWS for another 13 weeks to get 200hrs of BFM, WVR and BVR combat time flying 2 times a day 5-6 days a week flying against USN/USAF aggressors and you'll get a pilot who will be more proficient with that F-16 than an active duty USAF F-16 pilot who's been flying it for 2 years.

War is a racket --read the book ☮️☮️
@claylarson30213 ай бұрын
It isnt "a racket" if your countries boarders are being rolled over by Russian tanks and bombs are being dropped on the hospital where your child is. It is necessary, and not evil. How can you be so uncaring and arrogant? Yes, the aggressor is evil and a racket in this: Russia. But send arms ALL DAY to Ukraine so they can defend their homes and families. If they give up they will not live happily ever after. Think reprograming and oppression and devastation, abuse, police state, no freedom, rule by corrupt and violent Russian oligarchs. Yes, the Russians are playing games with lives because they don't value human rights, but arming Ukraine to defend itself from forced oppression while thier children are literally being murdered is noble, regardless of the economic mechanism that provides it. If you have a problem with Capitalism or Corruption or Imperialism, fine... then please realize that Russia, not the USA is the embodiment of the most extreme cases of those, and its fine to recognize that USA/Europe also have issues with those things to a lesser degree BUT KEEP SUPPORTING UKRAINE. For your reference the historical equivalent of Vietnam in this case is Russia being the Invading Imperialist here as the USA was in Vietnam. But it is far worse because the civil unrest in Ukraine before the invasion was all instigated by Russia, and then they just rolled thier tanks in and started mass killing/depopulating Ukrainians to replace them with Russian immigrants in the future. That you would put peace symbols up encouraging Russia to continue by leaving Ukrainian much less defensible is horrific and makes you a party to Russian warcrimes. I was one of the only people I knew that was against the Iraq invasion from the start... that is different than defending from an invader... SUPPORT UKRAINE. Fight war in this case by SUPPORTING UKRAINE, otherwise Russia will keep on rolling thier tanks across Europe and risks WW3... you FIGHT BULLIES to stop them.

and the reason the F16 were not sent 2 years ago when it was the most useful and ukraine had a chance to win, is.... ?
@Meower683 ай бұрын
Sending them F-16s is more involved than just shipping some of them over there. Sending F-16s into combat means some of them will get shot down. Which means the wreckage will be recovered by Russia. Which means Russia will get their hands on information, which they didn't already have, on how to exploit any weaknesses. Are we ready for them to get that info? They've already gotten their hands on Bradleys and Abrams, and they are relentlessly digging into same, learning all they can. And no, F-16s are not so super-capable that they will never get shot down; in wartime, EVERYTHING gets destroyed and / or captured, eventually. Pilots need to be trained; yes, Ukraine has very experienced pilots but those pilots are all experienced with Soviet-bloc jets, not western jets. F-16s are very high-tech western jets. There is a learning curve, not just to flying them but using their weapons systems effectively. The way the radars work, the way the weapons work, the way some of the displays on the cockpit work, are all very different from Soviet-bloc aircraft. The pilot training has been happening; I expect they are ready, now. You have to have ground crews trained to work on them. I did that for 4 years (former 2A353B here); it's nowhere near as simple as working on a car or truck. Again, while they have experienced ground crews, those ground crews are not experienced with western aircraft, which tend to be very different. Without experienced ground crews, they're sitting on the ground, non-flyable, within a few days. Finally, there has to be a supply channel for spare parts. If you send a bunch of F-16s somewhere, but no spare parts (tires, for example; fuel and lubricants are standardized but little else) they will all be sitting on the ground, unable to do much, within a week or two. The F-16 is the tip of the spear. But a spear has a very long handle on it. Just sending the tip doesn't accomplish much. Building the handle takes time. I'd like to believe they could've done it sooner but I suspect there was a lot of resistance to Russia getting their hands on the wreckage.
@hissatsu49373 ай бұрын
Takes long time learn how the F-16 works. You can't just send them there and expect Ukrainian's to know how to fly it. It's also necessary to have infrastructure suited for the F-16s and plenty of air defense systems to protect them. Ukraine didn't have any of that 2 years ago.
