Actually it is far from the truth. The lack of exposure of the 40k or Warhammer franchise in general comes from lack of exposure, duh, which comes from the previous policies of Games Workshop. Who owns the lore, rules and whatever else they have to pretty much own it all. However they changed their regulations and differently from years ago anyone can now produce Warhammer inspired content without getting permission which leads to games, movies, art, not official lore but fan-lore, etc. Which in turn is esposing the genre more now than ever before. The concepts have not changed much since the beginning, so it is not a question of the world around the lore having changed, it is the accessability or knowledge of its existence that has changed in the general public. The world in this moment in time is less grimdark then ever. Really. Before our lifetimes we had the cold war, vietnam, korea, ww2, etc. How is this, right now, grimdark compared to where we came from? Perhaps its the exposure there too but remember, it hasnt even been 100 years since ww2 yet people act like it was 500 years ago... Like cant the clear paralells between perhaps an afterwar facist regime and the empire in 40k be stragely similar? The lore of 40k has been heavily inspired not only by ww2 but everything else that is grim and/or dark from our own world, i think it will always ring a note with those people who feel perhaps without reason to exist or well men/boys (like me).

Some, like his custodians, see his as a young child (least one of the did) others see him as a pillar of light, some an old man. Some as a 15 ft giant. Some can't even look upon him without mentally breaking down and/or dying on the spot. He's so beyond human that it's never fully understood what he truely is. Also, is the Emperor xenophobic? Ehh... Somewhat. Kinda. Its hard to tell fully, we dont often get the Emperor's pov or inner thoughts. But given how xenos treated humanity during the age of strife, as well as how hostile xeno life is to not only humanity, but other alien species. Its likely he erred on the side of caution. He might not hate xenos himself, but he sure as hell knew they wouldn't be friendly to humanity as they expanded across the galaxy. Most aliens humanity encountered where outright hostile.

I found this answer in reddit that may explain better than I can about the nature of th Emperor and his actions on the Xenos: "There are a lot of historical matters that figure into the Imperial attitude with regard to xenos. First, during the time of turmoil, when humanity was fragmented, many humans were subjugated or worse, made into feed stock, for various xenos. Secondly, many humans modified themselves or were modified, some allowed AI's to take over (in Warhammer 40k, AI's are almost universally open to Chaos infection), generally, humans were either puppets or food, or not really human any more. Thirdly, one of the dangers of Chaos taking the human race was human extinction, humanity being mutated and changed to the point were being "human" was meaningless. The humans who were subjugated by xenos were all too willing as well to embrace an Emperor who commanded that "[...]this galaxy will be a human galaxy". To answer your question, he was not xenophobic, for the Emperor fears none, He was a misxenonist (alien hating), specieist. The memory of the Metal Men and the havoc they wreaked led to the taboo against machine intelligence. Many Psychers were also responsible for many crimes against normal humans, and so they too must endure many pacifications and purifications, to ensure they do not abuse their powers or fall to Chaos. And finally, those who lead men astray by convincing them to rebel against the Emperor, wrongly thinking they can brave the terror of the galaxy alone, who seek to break humanity apart again, their heresy is in a way an invitation to all the other heresies. In this galaxy such taboos and hatreds do not prop up the Emperors government, for the Emperor did not need such political props. They did however serve to ensure human unity, and the continuance of the Empire of Man, which the Emperor was swift to remind anyone that got confused about why the Emperor did what he did. And finally, no, he did not have this in mind at first, During humanities golden age, which he was partly responsible for, there was no policy of aggresive extermination, because humanity was simply too powerful to be challenged by any xeno. But that was before the fall of the Eldar, the ravages of the Metal Men, and mankind's hubris leading to internal war..." [Deleted] 7 years ago.

Then the eldar started their downward spiral into inadvertently birthing Slaanesh, which caused lots of warp storms that prevented almost all human space travel. Most of the animosity toward humans from xenos came about because Emps felt that, because the eldar indirectly screwed humanity over, that *all* xenos were untrustworthy and were better off dead. For the good of humanity.

By strapping the Emperor to the Astronomicon, his psychic radiance is amplified and acts a permeating beacon in the warp, shining brightly like a lighthouse in a ridiculously bad storm. That is why Navigators trained on Terra (Earth) are so valuable, as they can see this beacon, and use it to chart safer paths while in the warp. If no Navigator is present on the ship, the ships can instead make a calculated jump, for a less safer but ultimately effective result.

Not sure if this helps, but as a general rule of thumb, there are 3 key events that shape the general narrative of Warhammer 40k; 1) The Origins of the Necrons. 2) The fall of the Aeldari. 3) The Horus Heresy. While the Tau and Tyranids are a major faction in the setting, they aren't exactly a major element in the overall 'plot' (if you could call it as such) to the overarching story of humanity within the 41st Millennium.

In regards to the Lasgun, as far as I'm aware, the gun is fairly sufficient for most situations the Guard (and some PDF forces) go through. Yes, it generally lacks stopping power against things like Chaos Space Marines, Orks and some Tyranid variants, but even bolters and heavy stubbers ("heavy MGs") struggle to put these down at times. It is very effective against softer targets, such as cultists and traitor guard, has high reliability, is fairly sturdy, easy to manufacture, and its ammo (batteries) holds a fair bit of charge per pack (around 100 shots per pack). These batteries can also be recharged by almost any source of energy available (solar, thermal, etc) and can be built in a massive scale. Overall, it does indeed tend to fall on the short end of the power scale when it comes to infantry-held weaponry in 40k, but it is not obsolete. Unless the Imperium manages to minimize the recoil on bolters without sacrificing stoppage power, make plasma reliable and cheap, or create something more akin to Tau weaponry and manage to produce it in extremely large scale, the lasgun is still the way to go for general infantry issue.

The Primarch's genetics is a tricky subject. What is known is the Primarch project started before the Emperor started the unification war. It involved the creation of the Pure Primarch Geneseeds. Several gene sequences were then deleted and new ones added, not all of them of human origin. The Emperor then entered a warp gate and bargained with entities unknown to learn the art of soulcrafting. He then engineered not just their genetics but their very souls. But the Gods of Chaos stole them and scattered them to human worlds across the galaxy. That said many bear a striking resemblance to great warriors of earth history. Conrad Curze Primach of the Night Lords bore no small resemblance to Vlad the Impaler, Jaghatai Khan to Genghis Khan, ect.

15:40 Yes. I explain a lot of this in one comment I wrote under your other WH40k video, about the movie, to explain why there's such a mishmash of technology and medievalism in 40k; it is actually very well explained in the books of the Horus Heresy series. In that post I also explain the origin of the primarchs and of the space marines; and many things this guy doesn't explain. EDIT: 22:00 Yes, it's like a light-house. The Emperor always had this power, but he was building a hi-tech replacement for it, which one of his primarchs (Magnus) by accident destroyed (years of work); so the Emperor had to keep using his power to produce the Astronomicon. 23:00 Yes, it is obvious in the books that it is hard for most humans to NOT consider the Emperor as a god. But it is also very clear in the books that the Emperor lies, falls victim to anger, and makes terrible mistakes sometimes. There is never an answer given as to his origin, though some stories hint at his having lived on Earth since the age of dragons, and to have captured the most powerful one and taken it to Mars, where the dragon still lives in a cave deep underground. 23:25 Yes, he is xenophobic. Well, either that, or he just WANTS Humanity to be xenophobic. The orders to the primarchs was to kill any intelligent life that wasn't human. There is a "Consortium" of alien races that are trying to deal with this problem, and they manage to recruit one of the Legions to their help, the legion of Alpharius/Omegon, the dual-primarch legion; but those two get killed early in the war, as they get sent as an advance attack unit at Earth, and both get killed by the defenders. But the Consortium keep working in secret, and they believe the only way the galaxy will be spared from doom is if Horus succeeds and wins the war against the Emperor. In the end Horus only half-succeeds, as the Emperor is not completely dead; and it's not clear what the Consortium think about the outcome. 24:00 Keep in mind all this idolatry towards the Emperor came after he "died"; he would not have tolerated idolatry while he was alive.

13:00 the physical form of the emperor looks like a 100% normal dude (he isn't giant and golden on the throne). He just casualy alters the perception of everyone around him. I believe it was Konrad Curze who could one time when meeting his father see through the illusion. He also had medicore precog abilitys in the form of visions... come to think of it he might saw his future form on the throne.
@KnightYellow3 жыл бұрын
The sisters of silence (who are blanks) can also see his true form... maybe. Since his entire shape shifting ability seems to be based on showing people what they expect to see it is hard to discern if any persons impression of him is accurate... It may be possible that he has enough power to overwhelm blanks and still distort their vision of him. His ability to see the future is not really mediocre, it's pretty damned good. It is just that chaos conspired to cloud his ability to see the paths in front of him with accuracy in the run up to the heresy in much the same way that Sanguinius and Kruze were also messed with since both got their ability to parse the future from him. It is also strongly hinted that he may have went through the heresy multiple times looking for a strategy in which he prevails and as grim and dark as the 40k setting is... that turns out to be one of the most promising scenarios so he is sitting playing it out. His talks with Malcador during the heresy where they are playing Regicide are pretty revealing with him talking about which Primarchs he expected to turnt traitor and which would remain loyal. As well as Russ meeting a Terran raised version of himself that had none of the Space Wolf identity and Magnus himself stating that this version of reality has been altered by a 3rd party and events are playing out differently than they normally would. The grim dark truth is that 10,000 years of horror and death may actually be the "good" version of events for the Emperor, or he got messed up so badly that he can't manually reset the timeline and is stuck watching his empire turn against everything he advocated apart from humanity > Xenos.

Labeling the Emperor as a god is kind of but not entirely wrong, since the other examples of the title are GORK and MORK of the Orks, Tzeentch, Korn, Nurgle and Slaneeesh of Chaos (Malal doesnt matter is not important) and Kain and Aisha as examples from the Eldar are all collections of Ideals/Souls/Concepts given form by their believers/parts as a body is comprised of cells to make up the whole. In that regard the Emperor more fell in to the realm of the old ones (also beings of unimaginable psychic might and technologic prowess) as a example of the human race at the highest known apex of a races evolution/development, which happens to be at the same ''Level'' of ''power'' as beings known as gods. The Emp was really against religion to deprive the warp of being able to draw power of the belief or similiar feelings/emotions of the human race and to spare humanity the fallicy that is Belief in something other then their own decided Destiny. (very great vid on this aspect of wh40k lore or in general is the 1hourish long animated 30k The Last Church Emps attempt to deconvert the last priest) The origin of emps is disputed between dozens of stone age shamans being the first Psykers gtting aware of the danger that is the warp and mass ritualistic Suiciding to combine their souls to create a being able to lead humanity and combat chaos, and even the old ones tampering or outright creating the emps as one of their last efforts to bring order before dieng out. To end on why its not entirely wrong, is that since the enthronement of Emps and the start of the belief in him as a god inadvertently made him into something like a god of humanity, since that is the ability/characteristic of the warp which was once not fed up and was called the realm of souls. hope i could share some lore/fanlore tidbits.

The film "Event Horizon" is widely regarded as an unofficial Warhammer 40k prequel about mankind's first experience with the Warp. And the Warp could best be described as an alternative dimension where every single thought, impulse and instinct both conscious and subconscious ( from the most minor to the most depraved) takes physical form and consciousness. And the Imperial Guard will use every tactic from 18th century line infantry tactics to modern military tactics and everything in between. It all really depends on the individual regiments home world. So the Mordian iron guard would use 18th century tactics while Elysian drop troops would be more like modern paratroops. The thing to realise is if something in 40k seems stupid there is normally an in universe reason why_it might be a stupid reason but there is a reason.

The Horus Heresy is probably the most extensively-documented period in the lore that isn't the current day. Lots of fun stories there: -The Edict of Nikaea and the Burning of Prospero -Calth, the Shadow Crusade, and Imperium Secundus -Corax and the Raptors -The journey of the White Scars to Terra -The Schism of Mars -Vulkan and the Night Haunter -Fulgrim, Perturabo, and the Angel Exterminatus

adeptus arbites are the police force, they even have their own fleets of ships, and are a playable faction in necromunda and the spaceship game too. like a better armoured imperial guard but with shotguns and bolters and water cannons and attack dofgs, they will fight in protection of a planet alongside the planetary defence force and in peace they hunt down mutants witches criminals etc

I remember reading a fan Theory that says, the Emperor is not the 10ft tall Gold Armour clad being we see in the pictures, but it in fact Malcador, and the Golden Demi God we see is a Psychic projection created be Malcador to unify Mankind, and as Malcador was a normal size human it would ex-plane how he lived for so long and no body noticed him

Could it be that the example you were thinking of about those huge soldiers back in the 1600's is Napoleon's personal guard unit? Because if I recall correctly, Napoleon's guard were made up of the biggest grenadiers (to be a grenadier you already had to be taller than average) of the Napoleonic army. This is also part of the reason the rumor that Napoleon is short came about, simply because he was at all times surrounded by huge grenadiers.

S being better than A+ is a reference to (spectacle) fighting games genre, it's the best score, above A+, and it's usually something like "Superb" or "Stylish"
@Mugthraka3 жыл бұрын
14:39 Thats a Grading used mainly in Scyfy or Fantasy Its goes from the Lowest Threat Been F to S been the highest, some universe and settings even have SS or even SSS, levels of threats or Heroes. In a Fantasy setting with monsters, magic and adventurers, if there's an Adventurer's Guild from wich you can take missions (wich is EXTREMELY common in Anime/Manga and JRPG's) when you start your carreer as an adventurer you'll be either a F-ranked or G Ranked adventurer, the more Missions you do and succeed, the more contributions you make and the more your ranking goes up, to eventually A-rank adenturing parties or even S-rank adventurer wich is the Most OP you usually can get (outside the settings where they have Double or even Triple S rankings) In ScyFy its also used to categorise Threats levels, while a C-threat level is something that can be taken care off by a squad of trained soldiers, a S-Threat requires an entire Platoon with artillery support and heavy gear, like Exo-suits etc(depending on the setting) So in this grading systeme wich is very common in the Geek culture, S-rank/level/tier, means that you are the top of the top, the creme de la creme, Nothing is above you outside of the Universe and the Gods itselfs.

29:30 something Bricky doesn't sold well on the lasgun is the fact that 1) many batteries are rechargable, 2) many are solar rechargable and 3) can be mass produced in high cuantities. Its a logistic gift to not having to move ammo to every planet or move your troops plus the ammo, specially when its that many soldiers.
@edmundscycles13 жыл бұрын
It's also thermo rechargeable too . You can throw it in a fire to recharge . Plus you can hot shot the lasrifle .

Mosin-Nagant is still being found from time to time in Russia in untoched condition sealed in crates. It's not the oldest weapon I saw being used in modern conflict, that would have to be Lebel rifle which I saw being used in Syria. The most usable of these old weapons is probably StG44 which I saw a shitton of in Syria (plenty of photos of them, there's even one video showing several crates filled to the brim with them), which I'm really surprised about considering that ammunition for that must be getting pretty low. Nonetheless, Imperial Guard doesn't really have outdated tactics, the men at its' disposal are by modern standards elite and humanity is trying its' hardest to survive so of course they know of proper tactics and strategies, it's just that battles are so massive that there will be significant losses no matter what and some enemies are that powerful that winning requires borderline suicidal approach (if not outright suicidal, I've read of this happening only once but I'm pretty sure it occurs more often).
@Valreg3 жыл бұрын
One thing about the Lasgun is that it’s not necessarily designed to be outright fatal. It cause a wound that is cauterized, painful and will likely become infected. So any lasgun wound would require 1-2 people giving constant care, depleting manpower and hurting enemy morale.

To explain the whole minecraft nether travel connected to the warp. In minecraft everything is made out of block (as you saw) but once you go into the nether for every one tile you cross that is 8 in the overworld, so if you were to travel 8 tiles in the nether that would be 64 in the overworld. So it's kind of the same thing in warhammer, if you were to go X number of kilometers in the warp you would actually go 10X in the materium, but what year you exit to is unknown, you could be in the warp for 5 hours and pop out some 10 - 500 years in the future or past. Anyway, I hope this helps.

The tall dudes you referred to were probablay the Prussian infantry regiment No 6, aka the "Potsdam Giants". The initial idea behind it was that bigger soldiers that all had approxemately the same size would look better at parades. Later on, it was seen as a benefit that larger men could (in theory) operate the large muzzleloaders that the Prussian soldiers used more easily.
@mekhane6753 жыл бұрын
Nether travel is based on a concept in Minecraft where you can visit a hellish dimension called the nether. In this dimension, if you were to walk 1 block (1 meter) and then built a portal to leave, you would find yourself 8 blocks away from wherever you started. This makes nether travel a great way to quickly move across the world and get to certain biomes quickly.

Rewatching this, and am a little bored, so I'll try and give some context for some of whatever Bricky left out. Btw, if you're still trying to learn more about this fascinating-horrible setting, Luetin is incredibly knowledgeable; Baldermort is a great storyteller; Alfabusa (RIP TTS/Kitten!) is good light viewing and still 'close' to canonical. There's a literal movie on YT, Helsreach, and it's fucking badass. The Primarchs were artificially "geneforged" individually, unlike the; Custodies -- the next-lower tier of Human power -- are humans that got custom enchanced by Big E to be mini-golden-godlings; the Astartes are adolescent boys that had extra organs crammed in (with geneseed from a primarch replacing the genetic coding from their biodads), heavily brainwashed (psyco-indoctrination), and trained to absurd degrees; the Astartes replaced the stronger-but-unstable Thunder Warriors, of whom I am unsure of the specific augmentations of; Sisters of Battle are (mostly) unaugmented females that are well-geared and ZEALOTS to the Imperial Cult... power-wise, something less than an Astartes, but they're issued power armor and better weaponry than the lowest tier; Guardsmen (and women) are regular ass, unaugmented humans with armor that may as well be modern-day Lv IV protection, and smallarms that - while robust and reliable - are generally anemic... they rely on MASSIVE vollies, crew-served heavy weapons, and armor to dispatch anything more threatening than a base standard opponent. Also, they're very much a horde army. The Mechanicus/Mechanicum have really cool toys, and are often more machine than organic, I can't really do them justice with a blurb. Functionally cyborgs, and they have a virtual monopoly on Knights & Titans - they also have a monopoly on the knowledge to maintain and repair ANYTHING more complex than the most basic equipment. I'm sure I've missed a lot (like the Sisters of Silence, a faction of "Blanks" with anti-warp powers stemming from a lack of a soul; but idk much about them. Likely more, also), but that sorta sums up most of Loyalist Human factions.

There's also one thing Bricky leaves out about the Lasrifle is that it's ammo packs are solar and can be recharged around a campfire thus removing the need for ammunition for the vast majority of guardsmen along with the secondary benefits of a lighter pack it frees up logistics and manufacturing that can be used elsewhere.
