Long time ago, we Germans had here in Aschaffenburg a lot of Gi friends and also workplaces. But after the Dessert Storm war, all of them was leaving Aschaffenburg. Some of them was going back in to the States other to diffrend companys in Europe. Was a quit nice time.

I was in the Army from 1980 to 1988. The time I spent in Aschaffenburg Nov 83 to Nov 85 was the best time of all of it. Not because I was great. Not because my unit was great. (It was) It was because Aschaffenburg, the Deutsch volks, and everything about Bavaria was just really wonderful to me. I miss it still, and it's one of the 3 places I'd love to live someday. That list is Aschaffenburg, Colorado Springs, and Plymouth New Hampshire. But Monterey, California is number 4.

With you 100! I was in A-Burg from June 1975 until February 1987. When I finally departed A-Burg, I really did not want to leave. My last 5 years in the military were spent in Hanua, about 20-25 up the road. I visited A-burg whenever I got the chance. I've been all around the world and stationed in several other locations in Germany. None matches my fond memories of A-Burg. If my spouse wasn't ill, I'd be there right now.

I was stationed in Aschaffenburg Jan, 1971-Feb. 1972. Wow, can not believe it has been 50 years...That German beer was the best. You could buy wine out of vending machines....And the castle on the river was lovely. So many fond memories. The German people were very nice too. And the new years fireworks were really loud. oh, to be young again.

That is so crazy and sad to see all the good memories gone. My uncle was stationed in aschaffenburg and my dad in würzburg. When they closed the leighton barracks a year later I moved to USA. It was nice to have America in Germany.

Another vid just like this out there...anyway; I was a Cottonbaler, Graves Kas., Alpha 1/7th from Feb. 83 thru 89, I extended twice as A burg was a great garrison Town and I had no interest in serving back in the US after several soldiers had DEROsed to the states and actually transferred back, telling us the real Army was in Germany........hey, Who remembers macht nichts Charlie? Nice old guy would sell trinkets and stuff on the strasse? Bought my first souvenir from him. The River Fests, schwimbad ( swimming pool) .....'Heylands' Beer(sp?) We called it 'Headache' Beer lol. We'd pool our money and do the ole 'You fly, I buy' and one of us would taxi down and back to McDs across the street from the Bonhof.......Fantastic video , thank you very much....gotta admit when I saw the 1/7 HQ Graves sign at 2:33 I got misty, I was in Alpha co. and that sign was about 20 yards away if that, from the front of our barracks, the HQ being up the stairs to the right, saw that sign every formation for 6 years...... I remember A Burg and Germany very well and had the time of my life.I miss all you Aburg natives,...thank you for the memories, truly

Now 60 and those days have never left me...wished I could have stayed. Learning the language and culture was a blast. I cared not about the girls like most. I wanted the history, and art experience. C-Btry 2nd/41st FA 3rd ID from 84-85 stationed in Bad Kissingen. We were direct support for the 3rd Brigade for a while. Our battalion FDC's spent a few days in one of the track parks in A-burgh for a FTX. They hauled our 577's down on 18 wheelers. I'm sorry I never got the chance to look around there.... I loved everything about Germany and had a great time there. But the Army wasn't for me, although I did have some fun... Proud of all who have served, those who are serving, and those who will serve. May Deutschland remain free and prosper forever.....

Wow, this is really a blast from the past. I did my military service in germany '89, back then belgium had a mandatory duty of about 1y or 10months if abroad (neighbours) ; ) . I remember those leopards very well since it was al it was, a compagnie of 40 tanks with tech troops. Also often connected to American troops as guide in FRAT shootout's and Vogelsang shooting range. I never will forget an american officer putting me behind a machinegun to shoot some rounds a 500m targets, Our army budget could just provide for us to carry ammo on official patrols in the depots and not for shooting that much. if I remember correctly we pinched of some 300 rounds and got complemented for my good eye , gues i really did hit something thanks to those tracers every 10 rounds

Some of the best nights of my life were spent in the Irish Bar on Wurzburger Strasse 'The Dubliner', a joyous mix of cash happy proud American NCOs and Irish students preying on willing frauleins. The only tension arose around 4:30 am when tired staff stopped playing NWA and started playing 'The Pogues'.... lights went up and god knows what you were chatting up actually looked like😧... great times, great service by the men who served there🇮🇪🇺🇸.
