I bring an extra blanket to put in my intermediate bag to be very comfortable in cold weather. If that doesn’t work, I put the army bivy cover over-that’s 3 layers. Works perfect in 35-40 f.

I loved my intermediate bag. I use to camp all year with it slept in 0 degree temps many times its a little uncomfortable at that temp but youll survive the night just fine

I found the British bag to be higher quality but the US Intermediate to be a more comfortable bag.

Just bought this intermediate cold bag for $54 at an Army surplus store. Some say it’s grey, but looks more like a light olive drab color to me (I’m 20/20). The interior tag says the range is for 30 F to minus 10 F and is water resistant (not waterproof). This bag itself is perfect for camouflage.

this bag served me very well through my service. absolutely love it. out in the field there were nights where it got really cold (like 16F my psg kept repeating to us) and all i can remember is my buddies complaining about how cold they were the next morning, but no hypothermia or frostbite. despite the relative discomfort, the bag is designed to keep you alive. want to extend the warmth of the bag? just get the outer layer! will immediately make that bag much warmer. most guys had a habit of not bringing the shell because it is kind of bulky and extra weight they thought they didnt need lol. also on the stuff sack, you're completely right, it sucks BALLS so be sure to get an aftermarket one friends!!!

I usually put my poncho liner inside of it.
@VLSG9 ай бұрын
@@garymathena2125 yeah that also worked, sometimes i’d get even simpler and go with the woobie/poncho liner combination, super light yet nominally combines the effects of water resistance from the poncho and insulation from the woobie and is really lightweight

JMO - A bivvy shell made from Gortex can cost $200 and a military body bag works better , is far more versatile and less expensive if you can find one . A body bag can be used to keep snow , rain , mud etc. off the sleeping bag and is large enough to keep a rifle and extra gear next to the user . As an excellent hammock , improvised pack , flotation device , litter for rescue etc. A military body bag is worth every penny . I have military issue sleeping bags , but the preferred = North Face rated for 10 degrees F and another rated for minus 30 F . The Finnish model E-K is another consideration . Thanks for another Excellent review and all the best .

When I bought my gortex bivy a few years ago it wasn't $200. I think I paid around $70 maybe? Where are you buying the body bags? I can't find 'em for less than $200.

@@hardcorecampinggear A surplus store in Colorado Springs had the 1990s issue for about $40 complete with the heavy plastic bag insert . The name of the place is Glenns Surplus and is where I got my last 2 . If you can find the Finnish combination b bag & drag bag for snipers , they are some of the best .

I do a lot of outdoor camping in the winter I want to stay warm that's the only sleeping bag that I found that would keep you warm
@bustercrabbe84472 жыл бұрын
I've used the MMSS bag for over three years here in New England. It is only rated to 10 degrees F above zero. It is not a winter bag by any means. It is perfect for cold snowy wet/sleety/hail/freezing rain FALL or spring weather as found in September, October, November, early December, or in March and April. It is essentially a glorified survival sack. But it will kill you if you dare to use it in deep winter, 10 to 20 below zero F in a howling wind and deep snow. The condensation generated by your breathe in the cold winter air will freeze the Goretex cover rock sold destroying the micropores. So only use it in the fall, and it will keep you very warm and dry.

The entire sleep system with bivvy is rated to -50.
@bustercrabbe84472 жыл бұрын
@@hardcorecampinggear Tennier Industries advertises that rating ( probably meaning celsius). The army told me 10 F. My first hand experience was deadly cold at 5 degrees above zero F (and I was forced to use a wool blanket for a liner). This is not a winter sleeping bag, and certainly not an arctic bag.
@hardcorecampinggear2 жыл бұрын
@@bustercrabbe8447 I can't tell if you're talking about just the bag itself or the entire sleep system?
@bustercrabbe84472 жыл бұрын
@@hardcorecampinggear The entire sleep system. The inner bag. The outer bag. And the goretex bivy cover. The black inner bag has "intermediate cold" on its foot. But combined with the outer patrol bag doesn't make the entire bag that much warmer. Certainly not warm enough for a cold winter night (as I found out the hard way).
@hardcorecampinggear2 жыл бұрын
@@bustercrabbe8447 Thanks for the clarification. Were you using a ground pad? I think the Army has (or had, anyway) an extreme cold weather arctic bag. I've got a couple of those from a prior gen.

How long is the bag? Do they make sizes (like tall?)
@hardcorecampinggear3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The Military Issue Intermediate Cold Weather Sleeping Bag measures approximately 85" to 87" long and 34.5" to 35.5" wide at its widest point. I'm not sure if they issue a long. I know they do for the British Military bag, though. (I did a video on that one, too!)
