Glad to be able to help. Our LS website has lots of great info on heavy haul. I'm checking things out there all the time.

Three axle trailers allow you to haul more weight INSIDE CANADA. Canada does not have the 80,000 lb Gross Weight limit, as the US does. The more axles you have in Canada, the more weight you can haul LEGALLY.

That's what the SECOND MAP shows: axle weights for TRIDEM axle groups. Mind you: these are maximum weights you can get with a overweight permit. The legal load depending on the axle spacing is between 43,500 lbs to 45,000 lbs for all three axles. That's 19,770 KG and 20,450 KG respectively.

Well, I"m in Canada and it's supposed to be on metric too but since we deal with USA all the time as truckers we use pounds and feet a lot. I spent 35 years in Russia using MM, CM, M and KG and then I became a long haul trucker in Canada ;) Now I'm 'bilingual'.

It's a private web site. You have to be a Landstar BCO (trucker) or Agent to log in.

I always start with 12k on my steer, but most states will allow 14k. You could still do it, however your a little light on the tridem RGN, they are closer to 20k. It would be close, but depending on the states you want to go into you could scale it. Excavators are real easy to haul & scale. That's why people haul them really cheap. In your situation, I would plan on not hauling anything over 70k as a general rule. If you have the room you could look at putting a third axle on your truck...

It depends on what states your hauling in, but you should not have any trouble scaling that excavator with a 1+2+3 configuration. That would basically be your truck with a tri axle RGN. I don't know what your truck weighs, or what trailer you might haul. When I'm looking at a load, just for a quick idea, I figure 12k on my steer, 60k on my truck tridem (40k in your case) and 60k on my trailer tridem.

A lot of those axle weights on the map are incorrect. For example, you can have 44k on trailer tandems in FL, with out a permit. The map said 40k with permit. WV will allow 60k on tridem , not 52k. II do heavy haul up to 11 axles.

I thought that excavator might be pulled off with a tridem RGN. My truck only weighs 20.5K plus - let's say - 18K for a tri-axle RGN. That's 38.5K. Max permit load: 12+40+60 =112K. 112K minus 38.5 = 73.5K Darn - I'd be 1,500 lbs short ;) That's where the 46k drives on the truck would come in handy ;)

I have a KW W900L with a 55ton Fontaine 3 axle hydro RGN, I weigh 45k empty with 300gal of fuel. I can scale 85k all day long on 7 axles.

I normally run a 7 axle RGN. I can get 60k on my tridems 90% of the time. I can gross 132k on 7 axles just about anywhere except for MO. I am an approved carrier for Landstar and haul quite a bit for them. Are you thinking of going to heavy haul?

DEMOGUY666 What is different about MO? What does Missouri allow you for your 7 axle combination?

I want to get into RGN/DD freight, 2 axle trailers to start, nothing too heavy. Can you tell me what kind of trailer you need to haul a 75,000 lb excavator? 3 axles or 4? My truck has regular 12+40. Thx.

What about a threeaxle? Isn't there just a maximum axle load? So per axle, like in Europe, and a total maximum weight for the whole combination.

I want to know how much weight can 4 axel tanker trailer can haul from Quebec to USA NY
@HHTV6011 ай бұрын
i sent you the info by email. You can also find useful info here: ops.fhwa.dot.gov/freight/policy/rpt_congress/truck_sw_laws/app_a.htm. In general, 4 axle trailers for legal loads do not give you any advantage in USA, because the gross weight is 80,000 LB, no matter how many axles you have. So, the more axles you have the heavier you're and the less can haul. One axle usually adds 3,000 Lb of empty weight. EG. 5 axle rig (truck + tandem trailer) can weigh -- let's say - 35,000 LB. 80K minus 35K is 45K. That's your maximum payload. If you come to USA with a 7 axle rig (same truck but now a 4 axle trailer), the empty weight would increase by -- let's say - 6,000 LB. So now your empty weight is 41,000 LB, and you can only haul 39,000 LB (80K minus 41K = 39K).

My truck is just an average fleet truck, 235" wheelbase. I'm thinking if I can get into RGNs I could later change into a truck with heavier axles and longer wheelbase but n Canada you can't go over 244".

I know Sergie, but you need permits and all that. Using a three axle trailer gives no advantage at all when not in posession of a permit? I'm talking just a threeaxle trailerm no paperwork

i guess you're talking about a driver's license? yes, you need to apply for a new driver's license (or licence in canadian) and it can be hard to get. they don't care too much what you did on the other side of the ocean unless you lived in an english-language country. google ministry of transportation of ontario.

What is tridem?.. i don't know I will tell
@HHTV607 ай бұрын
tridem == 3 axles in a row; with the second axle deflated and off the ground.
@aoolboy112 жыл бұрын
Hey did you need a new license for car and truck when you moved in canada?
@HHTV6012 жыл бұрын
These are just guidelines. I guess Landstar was using conservative limits. If you have 52,000 lbs on a tridem in WV, and you say they allow up to 60,000 lbs, then the driver doesn't get a ticket ;)
