Ruchir Sharma is a great intellectual but wrong in saying that many Americans prefer socialism. I don’t know how he is defining socialism and what percentage of Americans prefers socialism. Socialism like the one we see in many European countries is not very popular in the U.S. I bet if you ask Americans directly about their likeness for socialism a vast majority over 90% will prefer capitalism over socialism.

I have one question for Ruchir Sharma - How do you define vacation? I am not sure if Ruchir Sharma came to for a vacation or work. If he came for summer vacation. Just like even the people who work as domestic help or labourers travel to their native place every year. So I didn't get his point there are people who can't even afford one vacation in a year. Even the poor in India travel to religious places.

I'm not sure if Ruchir Sharma is aware of melas in India. A staggering 25000 melas are organised annually across India. Got the number from Google. Most of them are organised in rural parts of India. How can you say - Poor can't afford a vacation?
