Actually, Thyssen bought US elevator in 1993, and soft touch was made in 1989. Then Thyssen bought Dover in 1999, then bought Krupp around the same time. The Thyssenkrupp Aurora uses the Same buttons form the US soft touch, so it is not a ripoff.
