Most people in india actually call it Pants. Interesting fact - Pants is the shortened form of pantaloon (which is how it was called in old english) and this word is to Pataloon which is the hindi word for pants. So the word pants actually comes the same word and the origin of this word is argued either to be from the hindi word itself or from Italian word Pantalone who was a character in a stage play.

Indian languages(hindi is not the only language) ,words are pronounced as they are written whereas English and Korean they sound different. For example, enough, gh is prounced as ff sound and not as gh sound. In Thought, the gh sound is not pronounced at all! Korean language, they write mul for water but pronounce it as bul. They have one word having different meaning based on the context. Bae (pronounced as bhae) meaning, stomach, sea etc.. In Indian languages we have several words meaning one word. Like for a tree, written as पेड़ another two words I know are वृक्ष दरख्त.

In Massachusetts, there are self-service gas station and full-service gas stations. I heard in New Jersey that by law people can’t pump their own gasoline. Only full service. In Oregon I think it depends on the area. Places I have lived the self service ones are more abundant. However, I don’t find it weird for someone to pump my gas because I go to full service places sometimes. I noticed the full service places were usually longer established businesses and had a mechanic on duty. The self service typically had no mechanic and usually affiliated with chains and had a convenience store. I prefer the full service personally.

Oh god! Socket is not wire girl!! Also we do use restroom word and pants word often. Pantloon is very rural word, i have never heard any generation saying it and am from bengal. We call it pants. And moreover indians arr morr westernized, so naturally we use a mixture of american and british words, and if somebody says we dont say that, then u r wrong!!

India has many languages and many regions where things are different, I'm from Karnataka, in the South so it is specific to this region. Let me give the equivalent Hindi words (in the Roman script) and the English words we commonly use. 1. At home, in the case of the attached bathroom we just say "Bathroom" or "Washroom", if the toilet is separate, then we say "Toilet" or "Commode". The Hindi word is "Sauchalay" - Meaning: A place to clean yourself. 2. "Petrol Pump" or "Petrol Bunk" 3. "Trousers/Knickers" for the shorts, "Half Pants" for 3/4s, "Pants" for the full ones. The Hindi word is "Patloon". 4. "Lift" is a common word, and "Elevator" is a Hollywood influence. 5. "Rubber" is a common word, but branding still uses "Eraser". 6. "Electric Plug" is the wire and the "Electric Socket" or "Plug Point" is the one on the wall. "Switch Board" is the entire board containing the room switches and some sockets. 7. "Curd" is actually "Dahee" but is also used for "Yoghurt". 8. "Bus Terminals" are where services start in big cities/important cities. "Bus Stations" or "Bus Stands" are the places (an actual structure) where you go to catch a bus. "Bus Stop" is where buses stop and pick up passengers on the side of the road.

@@Dara_107 I googled it: Sometime around the 1920s, employees at 東京電燈会社 created a device which consisted of a plug and outlet. This was called "Konsento Plug from "concentric plug". Outlets without the plugs are now referred to as Konsento. Needless to say, English "concentric" does not make much sense.

"Pataloon" पतलून in Hindi sounds similar to the Spanish "Pantalón" or even the Arabic "Bintaloun" بنطلون meaning pants 👖 or trousers.

I speak Spanish but even if I only spoke English I think I would figure out pantaloons because that’s where the word pants comes from. I think in the USA what we consider to be pantaloons haven’t been widely worn since the British colonial era. People don’t really wear bloomers anymore either. Although a lot of Southerners will refer to panties in general as bloomers they are a specific type of underwear. I think the word pantaloon comes from Italian.

If you ask “where is the toilet?” or “can I use your toilet?” in the USA then people will probably think you are crude speaking person. It’s like saying the crapper, pisser or whatever. Better to say restroom, bathroom, men’s room, ladies room here. Maybe if you want to be extra fancy powder room. 😂For us the toilet is the actual apparatus and not all of us call it that. Please don’t ask Americans for a rubber 😂😂😂 We say both electric plug and electric socket.

Seriously guys.. what word have you guys selected for translation 🤣: Petrol pump/ Elevators / Electric plug ??: ofcourse there's no Hindi translation for this because all of this was introduced when British ruled India and hence we call in what they called it. Trousers?? In old India we didn't wear trousers we wore pajamas which originates from Persian language. Do you know an English word for Saree? No, right because it wasn't an attire in area where English originated.

I am a South Indian from Tamilnadu state. In my conversation I used to use the words like, 1. Bathroom (in office) / Toilet (with friends & locals) 2. Petrol Pump 3. Pants👖/ (🩳 shorts are called trousers in my childhood days, it's before 2010). So we never use the term for pants as trousers. 3. Plug Point / Socket (interchangeably) 4. Lift / Elevator (interchangeably) 5. Eraser(mostly) / Rubber 6. Curd 7. Bus Stand / Bus Stop (interchangeably) Bus station - (it's a bus terminal)
