When I went to a combat training course called, RCS (Riverine Combat Skills) that was only for Men because of the extringent physical requirements needed to complete the course that women were not qualified for. But, the top Navy brass ( and the politicians) had five female sailors go through the course to show that women can do the training. Well, that's not what happened. The women could not perform the physical tasks. The Men had to help them or, the instructors had to lower or do away with some of the requirements and tasks in order to accommodate them. But, none of them was dropped from the training. Instead, they were allowed to graduate. And, to add insult to injury, the top brass, politicians and the media had a big dog and pony show at the graduation ceremony. All to deceptively show that women can do the training and that they are capable when we, the Men who saw what really happened, new that was a big fat lie.

I added up all the BS over my term and weigh my decision that it was not worth it, and now I can confirm that my decision to leave was the right choice. Among the BS that I saw was seeing a woman reach E-6 without going to a single deployment because she planned her many pregnancies to get around the deployments. So she pretty much took an E-6 billet spot by staying in the military, which lowers the amount of spots people can advance to. During the deployment, there was also an E-8 admin who makes comments on how dirty our uniforms were, when she works at the office and we were doing repairs and maintenance in engineering spaces, which means we are covered in oil, dirt, and grease. That means that she gets paid significantly more based on rank and time in for just pushing paperwork over the ones keeping the ship running. To put it into a civilian perspective, the car shop mechanic gets paid about a quarter of what the receptionist gets paid, while at the same time complaining about the mechanic being covered in dirt, grease, and oil.

It's always that kind of B.S. that you'd be on a maintenance activity or working party, and after only 5 minutes after being relieved of that... Oh yeah, we're calling muster for a uniform inspection. I hated that kind of thing with a passion, because there was never any kind of head's-up to prepare for it in any way either. No way I'm going to be "ship shape" when I've been moving over a ton of boxes for the last 4 hours, some of which were leaking stuff like broken eggs and rotten vegetable juice or whatever. Either that or whatever that film is from mucking the bilge spaces, where it's over 110°F with 70% humidity and you've been sweating at scrubbing grime off the bulkheads and pipes with soapy buckets sloshing everywhere to get the space ready for it's own inspection. And then with all that, getting PNA'd multiple times with advancement held captive to re-enlistment. (Only ding against me other than those kind of inspections was I couldn't run worth s*** in PT, but I still made it within qualifying time. They knew about my foot-chit, and my knees were AFU. Recommendations, qualifications, tests, and all that should have been sat.) Nope, I'm done. If you wanted me around, you'd have considered that much at least.

Decades ago, I attempted an experiment. A female co-worker asked me to lift something and move it to another department. I told her to do it herself. She complained to management. I was hauled to the office. Management demanded to know why I refused. I asked management 'have you read our emoyment agreements? The part where it stipulates that as a condition of employment, one must be capable of lifting a specific weight? I reminded management we both signed the same agreement, receive the same pay. So why can she simply ignore the agreement and demand I honour it? Management's jaw dropped. I had them and they knew it. They changed their tone, suggesting perhaps I could have been 'helpful'. I said to them 'did you just suggest I help her break her own agreement which she signed, that she is unqualified for the job? The look up management's face was priceless. I OWNED management and they knew it. So they ended the discussion and sent me on my way, never to attempt to trouble me again. 😎

Fellow AF vet here, served 22 years on active duty, then 13 years as a civilian. In the 90s it was our doctrine to train and equip for "wartime effectiveness, not peacetime efficiency". That was published guidance and how we executed the mission of national defense. Today, it's unbearable to watch. I recently quit working in a military environment out of sheer disgust. The lack of discipline and focus on non sensical societal shifts that do nothing but reduce our effectiveness and military capabilities. We have front line supervisors (E-5s and E-6s) afraid to enforce even the most basic disciplinary standards (proper dress and appearance, punctuality, customs and courtesies, etc) because new (junior) military members that are so inclined, are willing and able to push formal complaints based on all sorts of imagined slights, it's hamstrung basic military good order and discipline and even those troops who want to perform up to standard see many working the system and wonder why they should bother. So when SENIOR personnel begin abusing the system, the good troops leave and the dirtbags just keep doing as little as they can and hope for promotion and advancement based on checking boxes that do no actual good for national defense. When you are paying for private contractors to clean bathrooms because jr military members will complain if you ask them to take the trash out, you know you've got a soft ass military.
