I don't know about your experiences, but I served there from June 24, 1977 to December 16, 1978 as a light weapons infantryman; and I never had any issues with "Trench Foot" or "Frostbite". Of course we changed our socks daiily, and our leadership were constantly checking up on us to make sure that no one became a environment casualty. In those days, if someone got frostbite; his chain of command at least to platoon level (and sometimes company level) got their asses relieved!

Flintlock: I skydived once when it was 20 degrees Fahrenheit and after a freefall from 7500' I was right cold. Seemed like a good idea as we were hard up for a jump. Not exactly fun.

Except the Finns, Swedes, and Russians don't have the budget or force projection capabilities to train as extensively or exploit any cold weather experience they may have. Also, if you think the those nations armies are good winter warriors just because they live in colder climates, may I remind you that the US has Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, New York, etc.

Well first of all, hats off to our American brothers for getting out and doing some training in some semi-cold weather exercises as we both want and need them to do a hell of a lot more of this. That being said, labelling this as an extreme cold weather jump/exercise was stretching the truth in major way folks. I am all for the raw , raw shit but anybody who has lived and worked in the artic would be laughing at this as by arctic standards folks this was a pretty warm day to say the least. The tell-tale signs as to how cold of a day this was are so bloody obvious not to mention that these troops were not properly kitted up to spend any more than a day out on the ice at best. As a retired Canadian soldier I have spent many weeks on end operating in this environment learning from the absolute best extreme frigid cold weather survivalists in the world ( The Candian Inuit people) and I can only imagine what they would be thinking if they saw such a video. I would deploy almost anywhere in the world with our American brothers but I would not deploy with any forces equipped like these boys in Northern Sask little own the high Arctic. Shitty gear, red rucks which you could see for miles on end, no gear toboggans equals quicky jump, short hump and get the hell out of dodge before you freeze your ass off

That looks like it sucks more than normal. Got all that cold weather gear on, then eventually you'll get hot from actively engaging targets, and then you try to dress down and realize you're extra cold cause of sweat and the weather.

@dungeonrat
@dungeonrat 6 жыл бұрын
The "yellow cord" coming out of their parachutes is the static line which starts the opening sequence. Basically it pulls the "ripcord" for the soldier once he's clear of the airplane.

Why the backpack aren't white too?
@dungeonrat
@dungeonrat 6 жыл бұрын
They have an "over white" shell that covers their rucksacks, but on a jump the wind coming off the airplane is violent enough to pull if off, so ususally they'll jump without it on. Once they're on the ground they should put it on if they're being strictly tactical; why the didn't here I cannot say.
