When you think about racial equality and civil rights, which political party comes to mind? The Republicans? Or, the Democrats?
Most people would probably say the Democrats. But this answer is incorrect.
Since its founding in 1829, the Democratic Party has fought against every major civil rights initiative, and has a long history of discrimination.
The Democratic Party defended slavery, started the Civil War, opposed Reconstruction, founded the Ku Klux Klan, imposed segregation, perpetrated lynchings, and fought against the civil rights acts of the 1950s and 1960s.
In contrast, the Republican Party was founded in 1854 as an anti-slavery party. Its mission was to stop the spread of slavery into the new western territories with the aim of abolishing it entirely. This effort, however, was dealt a major blow by the Supreme Court. In the 1857 case Dred Scott v. Sandford, the court ruled that slaves aren’t citizens; they’re property. The seven justices who voted in favor of slavery? All Democrats. The two justices who dissented? Both Republicans.
The slavery question was, of course, ultimately resolved by a bloody civil war. The commander-in-chief during that war was the first Republican President, Abraham Lincoln - the man who freed the slaves.
Six days after the Confederate army surrendered, John Wilkes Booth, a Democrat, assassinated President Lincoln. Lincoln’s vice president, a Democrat named Andrew Johnson, assumed the presidency. But Johnson adamantly opposed Lincoln’s plan to integrate the newly freed slaves into the South’s economic and social order.
Johnson and the Democratic Party were unified in their opposition to the 13th Amendment, which abolished slavery; the 14th Amendment, which gave blacks citizenship; and the 15th Amendment, which gave blacks the vote. All three passed only because of universal Republican support.
During the era of Reconstruction, federal troops stationed in the south helped secure rights for the newly freed slaves. Hundreds of black men were elected to southern state legislatures as Republicans, and 22 black Republicans served in the US Congress by 1900. The Democrats did not elect a black man to Congress until 1935.
But after Reconstruction ended, when the federal troops went home, Democrats roared back into power in the South. They quickly reestablished white supremacy across the region with measures like black codes - laws that restricted the ability of blacks to own property and run businesses. And they imposed poll taxes and literacy tests, used to subvert the black citizen’s right to vote.
And how was all of this enforced? By terror -- much of it instigated by the Ku Klux Klan, founded by a Democrat, Nathan Bedford Forrest.
As historian Eric Foner - himself a Democrat - notes:
“In effect, the Klan was a military force serving the interests of the Democratic Party.”

A lot of important key factors left out that really shows the bias of @PragerU Democrat John F Kennedy purposed the Civil Rights Act. Lyndon Johnson signed it into law on an election year, which was political suicide for Democratic support from the South. The Senate votes for the Civil Rights Act were Democrat 46-21 Republican 27-6. Northern Democrats 45-1, Southern Democrats 1-20 Northern Republicans 27-5 Southern Republicans 0-1 House Votes were Democrat 152-96 Republican 138-34 Northern Democrat 145-8 Northern Republicans 136-24 Southern Democrat 8-83 Southern Republican 0-11 For both the house and senate, over 95% of Northern Democrats and around 85% of Northern Republicans supported the Bill. Around 93% of Southern Democrats and 100% of Southern Republicans opposed it. In the 1964 election, Lyndon Johnson only lost 6 states. Arizona, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and South Carolina to Barry Goldwater. Barry Goldwater was a Senator from Arizona, one of the 6 Republican Senators who opposed the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

Hey… search up a map of blue states vs red states in the current US. Then search up a map of the US during the Civil War, and look at which states were part of the Confederacy, which states didn’t help stop the Confederacy, and which states were part of the Union. It should be pretty obvious that the Republican Party today was not the great party that it was under Abraham Lincoln. This is because the parties swapped mid-20th century. There are no minorities in America. "Minorities" is a nomenclature advanced by the democrats to keep "people" separate (blacks, latinos, LGBTQ, women, etc.) They make it seem as if they advance unity when all they are really doing is reinforcing division. They corral these people into separate groups and brand them victims so that they can appear as their saviors. Why? When the democrats appeal to large groups they can ensure that these large groups (as a whole) will charge like giant herds to the voting booths and vote them into office - after which, they do nothing to improve the lives of these people. All they want is to be in power. All they need is your vote. The truth is we are all Americans (not African Americans, not Latinos, not whites, not LGBTQ, etc.) but the dems don't want this - this would mean they would need to work twice as hard to create a viable platform to win elections. It would mean they would have to gain votes the hard way - individual by individual (more difficult) rather than gaining votes easily by brainwashing entire groups of people. It's why they need to keep these people mentally enslaved to them. Kanye West may have emotional issues he needs to work through but he was totally right about the mental slavery the democrat party has caused in people. I live here, unfortunately, and there are a lot of illegal immigrants. King Mojo the point is that she cannot be accused as being evil, or dismissed out of hand purely on the basis of sex or race. In many progressive’s minds, if a white male says something they disagree with, everything they say can be dismissed out of hand just because they are a white male saying it, even if they are 100% factually correct. The point is they hired a black woman as a calculated move to try and provide credibility. They didn't have to do it to get conservatives to agree - you can say anything you want these days if it makes modern liberals look bad and get the GOP on board - they seem to have completely stopped checking neutral sources before reposting things. I'm not saying this video isn't technically correct in its factual statements. Unfortunately, context and circumstance are also real things. There's a good reason the Democratic party today comes to mind when you hear racial equality and civil rights. Except in the opening statement, this video would be precisely as factually correct if it replaced every instance of "Republican" with "liberal" and "Democrat" with "conservative". LIES I hear you thinking. HOW RIDICULOUS. Yes, unfortunately you have to look it up, and this vid conveniently leaves out that context. In the 1800s Democrats oddly used to all live in the south, and Republicans controlled the northern states. Go ahead, have a look. Do you honestly Believe all conservatives moved south after slavery was abolished, and all liberals moved north, as it is (broadly speaking) today? Of course not. People stayed where they were and kept believing roughly what they believed. But political platforms changed starting around 1925 and people who once voted Republican supported Democratic policies, and vice versa. It's really tragic to see modern conservatives watch this video and stick their chest out with pride for murica and how right they've always been.

Bill and Hilary Clinton were all gung-ho about "law and order" policies that targeted black "super predators" and ultimately made blacks a disproportionately large % of the prison population. A disproportionately large % of abortions are performed on black women. Partying it up hard in white hoods and black face was apparently all the rage in Democrat circles in Virginia in the 80s. And lets not forget that it took Democrats over 50 YEARS after their "enlightenment" in the 60s to even get around to nominating a non-white male to their party. So clearly racism still existed after some southerners abandoned the party. It's like the saying goes: let he who is without sin (racism in this case) cast the first stone. As we're quickly finding out, there are more and more folks on team D who find themselves ineligible to even cast that first stone. Don't be a moral authoritarian if you can't demonstrate a perfect record of practicing what you preach. In the age of the internet, the past will catch up with you, one way or another. Malcolm X was right, the black community was foolish to throw in their lot with a Democrat party with a demonstrated history of racism (at the time, he died in 1965). But, sadly, handouts and sweet words won out over the sage words of Malcolm X.

This video is a little extreme and I don’t see it’s point. What is this solving? Their supreme court nominee's provided the votes needed to overturn the 1875 Civil Rights act and the 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson. Hitler did more to end segregation because FDR needed Black soldiers and Black workers. Blacks brought the methods and tactics of the CIO Industrial union movement to the South. The Protest March, Mass Picketing and the Boycott were all tactics of the industrial workers in their battles with the bosses.
