I’ve always liked India and Indians for the most part…I like their values and their desire for something resembling a democratically inspired system etc. they had a tough history, like the USA, where they were simultaneously helped massively by England and hurt considerably by them, but have gained independence nonetheless. If the US were the ones trying to invade, you might be right. But mainland China is the one that wants to mount an amphibious assault, which is the most difficult type of operation in all warfare. It's nearly impossible without complete supremacy on and under the sea and in the air. The US Navy won't have to control the straits or supply an army in Taiwan, it just has to make it too difficult for mainland China to supply its army in Taiwan. The math there is overwhelmingly against the PRC. They don't just have to win, they have to completely annihilate the US Navy, and that's never going to happen. One or two USN submarines surviving in the straits or one USN carrier group operating 200 miles _east_ of Taiwan will be sufficient to make an invasion impossible.
