Pointing to the implications of a Kremlin victory, US Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell told a Munich Security Conference panel led by DW’s Tim Sebastian that arms shipments to Kyiv needed to be sped up to ensure Moscow is defeated.
A successful outcome in Ukraine for Russia would also "embolden China" McConnell added.
McConnell said that if it was up to him he would approve the delivery of F-16 fighters from the US to Ukraine. The veteran Republican lawmaker said the West had taken a "holiday from history" after the Cold War until the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Other guests on the panel included Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov, and French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna.
Please let us know what you think in the comments below.

@@burns281981 Your reply proves my point by calling him by his leftist smear name "turtle". Leftist have an opinion on Mitch that not based on thier own experience listening to him. You see it echoed in this comment section with ignorant comments like "this is the first thing Mitch has said I agree with". He probably says a lot of things people agree with. DW has many of the traditional corporate media viewers. Point is many of these opinions are formed for them by networks like CNN telling their viewers what they should think about Mitch rather than listening to what Mitch has to say himself. Partly because he doesn't do a lot of interviews but mainly because of the left wing smear machine. Now when they actually listen to him themselves instead of what CNN tells them he thinks they say "fOr oNcE i AgReE wItH mItCh" If you think I'm wrong when was the last time you listened to him? Also I'm not sure where the "comrade" comment is coming from.

Alina nailed it on the head. WHAT IS THE POLICY? We, as countries with democracy and freedom, need to DEFINE our policy crystal clear as a UNITED front. The entire concept of deterrence is based on a force that is so powerful, a war against it cannot be won, therefore no one even tries. That is deterrence. This is huge reality check for everyone in democratic countries. Just because we may be beyond war, does not mean everyone on Earth is. And when another country starts a war against us, we have only 2 choices: surrender our right to exist, or fight for it. Our personal beliefs about whether or not a war should take place at all, no longer matter, because an enemy like russia does care what we believe in. And China IS watching. Xi just consolidated power even further and publicly removed from the NPC, a member of the opposition party on national TV for all of China and the world to see. He's doing exactly what Putin did, over the exact same amount or terms as president. We need to get real. We're going to have a world war on our hands if we don't DECISIVELY defeat russia in Ukraine.

I'm a big fan of Conflict Zone! The main interrogator, as here, follows up answers and asks for clarifications. Sometimes more aggressively than here, but that's understandable given the situation and the participants. I wish US television and on-line programs were as pointed and aggressive in pushing politicians and other office holders. My ancestors fought for independence from European imperial rule, they were aided by volunteers from Europe like the Polish patriots Kosciusko and Pulaski. We owe them for their support , and there are more than ten million US citizens of Polish, Lithuanian and Ukrainian decent who agree. They are fighting from freedom and independence from barbaric imperial aggressor, and they must be supported "for as long as it takes" for them to achieve their independence. Slava Ukraine! Slava Ukraine's heroic defenders! Niech żyje Polska odrodzona i na wieki wolna!

@@qili3899 Yes, dictatorships do move quicker. But they sent those planes because the Mig15 was a joke compared to the F-86. NATO aircraft are vastly superior to what the Russians have, sending the best jets would give Russia a chance to send that tech to China, because Russia is not able to replicate it. So the only solution is to send more jets of an older type. The US have stockpiles of older F-16s , they could send those, but they must start training the pilots. The US can't use the F16 in the Pacific theater anyway, because they can't be launched off a carrier, and they have a short range, so why not give them to Ukraine ?

True. But reactive support is better than blackmailing Ukraine and witholding aid out of loyalty to Putin the way the last administration did. Now the same people who have fought Ukraine tooth and nail for years and sough to deny them aid all the sudden want to turn around and speak as if it isn't coming fast enough, as soon as they see it's a losing political issue for them. Totally shameless.

This was for battle tanks T’72 and also for anti-missile systems S-300. It is not that bad because, after all Ukrainians are familiar with soviet era military hw. I was just pointing out what really happen, there is a cascade rotation of military hw going there. I was critical of sending this soviet era hw to Ukraine (around mid last year), because it’s Russia who munitions and parts for this equipment and because Russia knows very well this military hw and its weaknesses. I favored Ukraine buying the battle tanks in market using money offered by EU and USA, buy from South Korea or other tank manufacturer. So Ukrainians could avoid restriction on spare parts and ammunition, suppliers in Asia could release military hw in storage and in use on their military, because right now they are not at risk of war.
