yes. it is so frustrating seeing (yt) people belittle north korea, which whether they know it or not by traveling there, you are… i truly believe because they are asian, they feel they are invincible against NK. but north korea and south korea is STILL one of the most militarized areas in the world. there is so much pain from the war - we still require ALL south korean men to serve in the military when they are adults for this reason.. it’s not fun and games, the citizens of NK are brainwashed. if you’re not gonna help with the liberation of people, don’t go?? OR don’t be crying/ shocked when one of the most powerful dictators in the world decides to kill you.

No way I think he even tried to take that silly poster. Most kids would just take a pic or video of it. Doesn't ring true. I think he was set up, and so does Otto's roommate on that trip. The video is blurry and could be anyone. His "confession" was forced and fake. They hate Americans and they had a live white one. ALL the other Americans they've detained are Asian.

I can’t believe people are so cruel to do something like this and to a 21 year old. I can’t imagine his fear or his parents heartbreak This makes me so angry and wish we had took a stand of some sort after this happened. No doubt they did this on purpose

So who fault is it? I believe it's the boys fault he's an adult and he shouldn't have done anything stupid. I am not really sure how that place work so I won't say anything on them, but still everyone is an adult in this situation. He's smart enough to know how dangerous North Korea actually is and even if it's a career boost or what ever his reasoning for going I would never let my child go, yes it is important to see your world, but he could have went some where else. Also a part of me don't believe he's dead his family could have claimed it, but he could be they could be hiding him somewhere, but then again he could be dead he was so damaged when arriving back home.

I think Americans don’t realize how “free” of a country we have and in a way take it for granted. Taking a propaganda poster down is considered nothing in America but other country’s you could be put to death for what we see as such a little crime. People have to respect and UNDERSTAND other cultures before they travel. In my opinion I would never travel to North Korea it’s just to dangerous. Sad such a young life has been lost. Bless his family

Engineerdude The second thing you said is entirely false. The doctor that inspected Otto said he did no hard labor at all since his hands were in excellent condition. Even said he wasn't tortured at all and didn't have botulism. The Otto guy simply was scared shitless for his life.

so his dad says that his son went for the adventure and then he sounds like he wants to condemn the act? his sons fault for going and stealing, but I don't condone making it illegal for those that want to go. if you go know the risks and no one can say you didn't know.

It's sad what happened. However, if you know some place is dangerous stay the heck away. Heck, when I lived in Chicago I knew that there were dangerous parts of the city. I simply didn't go to those areas. Then the guy tries to steal something while there. That's like me heading to the South side of Chicago and throwing up some gang sign. Nothing good will happen from that action.

Truth be told, I wouldn't want to be a foreigner caught in the US for a misdemeanor either. NK seems the more scary of the two, but when you read all the details of foreign travel advisories to the US? I'd hate to be a Hispanic from S. America or visibly of middle eastern descent. The US has show just how nasty it can be to people with guantanamo and other black sites. People who haven't even been convicted of a crime.

But do you know how many people die in the prisons in the USA in their own country.
