@michaelcaplin89695 жыл бұрын
@Siya He was aggressively tortured, that much is not up for discussion. However, what can be debated is whether or not his captors wanted this outcome, or if they weren't able to restrain themselves. When seing the few torture sessions smuggled out from North Korea, it's easy to see the captors losing control and taking it too far for too long. After all, they do bang the prisoners skulls against the walls repeatedly until blood splatters visibly on the walls. This would have been going on for a long time, and it's easy to see how brain damage would occur. The question is whether or not they actually intended for him to go to the concentration camps. I suspect they did, but that the interrogators took it too far for too long, and didn't want to risk him dying in their hands, blaming it on a disease and immediately sending him out of the country to die somewhere else.

Exactly. Our hearts go out to the Warmbier's and especially their poor, unfortunate son whom Obama abandoned, and the Methodist Church's minister who challenged Otto to commit a crime should be brought to task, too. The reason Obama left Otto in Kim's hands was because Otto gave that press conference where he exposed the Deep State's involvement with the Methodist Church and also this particular Secret Society he wanted to become part of. Otto was lured into committing a crime against North Korea by all of the above and although it was his decision, they promised him enough money to entice him into jeopardizing his safety. Watch #OttaWarmbier's Press Conference! The parents should've had an autopsy and instead of them asking, What did they do to our son? and How did he get that scar on his foot? they would know. Yes, Otto had been through enough, but if they continue to ask questions about what happened to their son, they should have an autopsy, have everything documented, who knows how it may play out in the future.

Had I known her body would have been embalmed I would not have been okay with that either. Whatever it is, I know what ya mean. The first part that threw me off is when the father says so matter-of-factly that he was “systematically tortured by the Kim Jong Regime” when obviously he has no way of knowing that, so why so matter of fact sounding when it isn’t a known fact? Why no photos? No autopsy? Why no evidence? Why does their story conflict with the U.S. doctors? Why does he start to say “the Korean government paraded him around..” and then stop himself almost as though he caught himself in too obvious of a lie? Sure, tragic. I’m not denying that. But everything after that seems to be more geared towards the 500 million that the U.S. ordered North Korea to pay the parents. No autopsy? No photos? No evidence? Just the parent’s story? It really seems like they suffered a terrible tragedy, but then saw it as an opportunity to milk the legal system for all they could. There are just too many aspects of this story that five me that impression.

I would love one of those psychologists or whoever that study body language to watch this interview and tell us what they think as there is something so wrong with this.
@petrasmiles10294 жыл бұрын
I'm one of these people so let me tell you. Those people lived for a year not sure whether their son is actually alive, the son who went for a trip to NK. For a year.. grief, anger for allowing him to go , fear mixed with hopes. Then trying to forget so you can live but feel guilt if you enjoy things in life knowing your son might or might not be alive. Then you get the news he is alive and you witness your son being in the worst possible state. Not sure if you have kids but for every parent seeing your healthy child being deformed and basically brain dead is the most horrific thing. There are events which make you cry and those where you don't have even any more tears to cry for. People are often in so called dissociated state- this is typical for people who went through so much trauma and suffering. They tell a story as if it happens to someone else. This is how they access the memory. They see themselves the picture rather than see it through their own eyes. Both of them , especially dad still sees it 'through hos own eyes'. He is on national TV as is mum. This is where it is tricky. Because they 'saw' it so many times and recalled this moment that it doesn't cause same emotions any more. They worked on it either with psychologist or themselves. You want to be emotional on TV not to come across as cold, but on the other hand, you also dealt with emotions so they are not that dramatic or people would call- how grieving parents would react. But remember it has been long time and a lot of different emotions that were learnt to be 'in control'. This is how people can cope to finally let go of suffering. Its normal grieving process. Their was very lenghty. However some people after tragedy 'seem' fine quickly. By no mean they are fine. They just learnt to be isolate the momory and literaly make it like a blank page. It is a survival mechanism as they know if they allow themselves to grieve they would not survive.

Don’t hate on me for this - but I have never witnessed two parents who lost their son recently to torture and murder smile so much and speak so matter-of-factly about it. No emotion at all. So many irrelevant facts. Such bizarrely story-like descriptions from the “parents”. Really weird. There’s no emotion to what they say. Something isn’t right here.

Human psychology is a lot more complex than that. People express grief at stages. They've likely moved past the state of horror and sadness and moved straight into anger. The mother definitely seems angry. Don't forget smiling is also a fear reaction, as well as laughter.

Yes, it was idiotic of Otto Warmbier to visit North Korea, a totalitarian regime that not only punishes traitors to the government but three generations of their family as to discourage dissent. Obviously, Warmbeir's decision to visit North Korea was not wise. However, his lack of judgment did not warrant the punishment. Otto Warmbeir's imprisonment and maltreatment were likely motivated by North Korea's grievances against the United States. In Warmbier's trial for the supposed theft of North Korean propaganda, the sole piece of evidence presented against Warmbeir was a grainy film purportedly depicting the theft poster from a North Korean hotel. However, the man depicted in the video is unidentifiable. While Warmbier could not be linked to his alleged crime nor was he provided the opportunity for a defense, he was found guilty, likely so the DPRK could use him as a pawn in their war of diplomacy against the US. Even for those of you who believe Warmbier committed the crime of which he was accused, 15 years in a hard labor camp for "stealing a flag" is barbaric. Yes, it is true America has been responsible for injustices and atrocities in the past. But in no way does that lessen the savagery of the North Korean regime. For any of you readers who want an inside look at the heinous crimes orchestrated by DPRK, I would read "Escape from Camp 14: One Man's Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West." It illustrates the life of a North Korean citizen born into a forced labor camp. Through no fault of his own, the book's author is subject to deplorable conditions inside a North Korean forced labor camp and compelled to starve, kill, torcher others, be torture himself, and climb over his friend's dead body to escape to freedom. Even if the DPRK did not torture Warmbier to death, they still would have subjected the young man to the same atrocities all prisoners face in North Korean Forced Labor Camps. That is what a heinous regime looks like. Yes. Of course. Do not visit North Korea. But do not justify, even to the slightest degree, what the North Korean regime did to this 22-year-old high-school salutatorian and near University of Virginia graduate who had so much to offer the world. Comments like "If the legitimacy of a sovereign country comes down to a single instance of its treatment of prisoners, then the US lost legitimacy a long time ago" and "He should not have been behaving like a spoiled brat in the first place. Do not steal any paintings in North Korea" are disheartening as it, however minutely, serves to justify the DPRK's barbarous punishment directed toward a young man, likely on the grounds of his nationality.
@lillylazer4295 жыл бұрын
Well said. There is no real proof it was him who stole the poster. Just a grainy image.
@trinitylivingston12865 жыл бұрын
They have no real concrete proof that he stole the sign. Yes, he was stupid to not listen when told to not go to N.K. and the 5th floor but he's dead now and probably was tortured. What they did was evil and it's worse to justify what they did. It's terribly unfortunate that this happened.

When I heard them speak against North Korea's evil couldn't help spontaneously cry and applaude Otto's parents particularly the mum for her most definant courage. An evil regime cannot exist unless people turn a blind eye to it. Not necessarily with violence but we all need fight tyranny where ever we find it In order to stamp it out. There was one mistake she made on 60 minutes though Korean prisoners and its people treated much worse than her son. She has no idea the atrocities that's been committed Pretty predicated there. If that's what can happened to an American citizen, she must know it's people are treated infinitely worse. It shouldn't ever have taken this long for people to figure out how horrible this place is. Just because it's not happening to us doesn't mean it's not happening.

@@Brenda90210 I’m sorry, that didn’t come across right. I first learned of Otto’s death 6 months ago. I was outraged and troubled that something so horrible happened. I couldn’t make sense of many details of the tragedy and spent much of quarantine reading anything I could find. I started looking into a factual timeline of events. Many factors of this tragedy are deeply disturbing to me. I watched the German documentary released last year here on KZbin. The documentary stated “Otto died after being taken off life support.” That didn’t make sense bc Dr Mike Flueckiger (the American physician that was on Otto’s rescue mission) was interviewed and still maintains OW was in good physical condition. Obviously he was in a terrible state but his organs were all functioning well. He was breathing independently. I wondered where “life support” came into the picture. I reviewed several articles about the Warmbier’s and found out what his cause of death was. I don’t understand how that occurred. I am very sorry for his death too, but there is a lot of this story that’s been altered. Hopefully lives were saved after a strict travel ban was put into place and Americans aren’t allowed to travel to NK.
