You’re being too kind. Much of the copying has been through IP theft. Communist countries don’t innovate due to lack on incentive. Why is that bad? IP theft is dangerous for the economy, in the West we spend trillions on education, that goes back into the economy if a company has succeeded with their new developed and locally produced tech for example. If this is now stolen and made cheaper in China, then distributed back to the west all the investment was lost. Don’t forget the hard time western companies have setting foot in the Chinese market due to government protectionism, etc the western market is free to enter for the Chinese. Not a level playing field. Just to illustrate the scale of theft… Deputy director of the FBI, Paul Abbate, alleged in 2022 that China runs "a massive, sophisticated cyber theft program", and that it "conducts more cyber intrusions than all other nations in the world combined." The FBI had more than 1,000 cases of intellectual property theft involving individuals associated with the People's Republic of China open in 2020. According to Christopher Wray, the FBI opens a new Chinese counterintelligence investigation every 12 hours. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 80 percent of its economic espionage cases involve the People's Republic of China. It’s rampant.

Yeah, it's time we start to shift our military focus to space assets. The Navy, while still important, has to be lessened in proportion to the space force, which is the future. Ideally, eventually aircraft will be deployed from space stations, but in the meantime, we should repeal the law that makes us carry 11 carriers, and shift to another group-dominant strategy. In essence, we have to re-envision what war is going to be like in the next 50 years, and meet that standard.

Hypersonic weapons don't seem to really work as advertised. Partly because they're not really or always that hypersonic. They also can't carry that much payload. And when they get hypersonic, they are not very accurate, very likely can only hit static targets. Finally the Ukrainians have been able to shoot down a few Kinzhal and Tsirkon missiles with (not the latest) Patriot systems, something that is likely being studied.

China's first commercial jet airliner, made it's first international flight recently. But yet we are expected to believe, China has in multiple domains, including space, more advanced technology than US, Europe, and Japan put together ?? That just doesn't sound realistic to me, when we see their tofu dreg construction failures. They have only just managed to copy US and Europe's commercial airliners.

Do you know about copy? Let's put it this way did US and Japanese not copying European technologies during their development cycle? Did Henry Ford invent cars or did he just copy the Europeans? We can also look at Japanese automotive industry, did Honda started off building the car by himself or did he started as a mechanic simply servicing the cars? The idea of copy is simply a process of acquiring understand and knowledge. TSMC was sat up by Taiwans' government in 1987 and it was not a pioneer of chip fabrication until two decades later. Talking about their tofu dreg constructions, China has built a 40000 national high speed railway system in the last 20 years and how many of them have actually falling into this tofu dreg constructions?

@@jliang70 In your paranoia, You completely miss my point, which was, as the Chinese had European and US commercial jet airliner technology to copy, it has taken them this long to make their first international flight, but yet claim to have similar or more advanced technology, ie fifth generation aircraft. Same for aircraft carriers. To me that sounds incredibly far fetched. Regarding tofu dreg, the fact that the Chinese people actually have a phrase for it, is proof enough

@@tuffnutlevern9363they are making the lasers for drones, ballistic missiles and aircraft. The problem is range. A laser shoots in a straight line. Not great for targets beyond the horizon due to the curvature of the earth. And weather can be limiting too. But they are rapidly advancing the technology. And airplane mounted lasers help with the curvature situation. Space borne lasers would be optimal. 😎

The US cannot afford to let China take control of Taiwan. Taiwan is critical for us electronics manufacturing, particularly the next gen of AI parts. Nvidia will have serious problems if it cannot access Taiwan IC manufacturing facilities. The next generation of robots depends on ICs made in Taiwan. There will be IP that the US will not want to fall into the hands of the Chinese government.

TSMC and INTEL are building manufacturing plants in Arizona and Ohio. Also, the United States military has the patent on making UVE technology. Now the United States military is working on faster processors. I served 8 years in the United States Marine Corps, we train without relying on technology. We train without having air support, artillery and armoured vehicles. Soon enough, we will have Space Marines.

@@NateWhitehorse the US and the west in general have made the error of offshoring its high tech manufacturing. It will take decades to regain that technology within its borders. Some of that expertise does not belong to the US, it has evolved in Taiwan. Effectively the US has lost control of part of the science on which it depends, and that is a serious error. Saying that the us military trains without this technical advantage will not help if it faces an enemy that has acquired it.

Excellent analysis. And obviously lots to think about. One concern i have, and i have not seen it mentioned, is that we now have a "dreadnought" moment i.e. all our (the west's) military superiority is in the process of being made redundant by hypersonic weapons and drones (both air and sea). Ukraine has basically shown the limitations of a navy and aren't even using hypersonic missiles. Are USA's 11 carrier fleets, as well as the UK's vanity carriers, sitting ducks now?

USA/NATO had an absolute military, technological and industrial economic advantage over China in 1952 but could not beat China in the Korean War. China now has superiority in industrial production, advantage in missile and space and equal in technological aspects. What China has over USA in over abundance more now than even in 1952-54 is national pride and belief in their country worthy of the ultimate sacrifice.
