In Spain they did hand out the medals on TV. It was a spectacle. I'm happy for everyone, but especially for Simone and Suni who had serious health problems and were spectacular. Very excited

Somehow awful that they didn’t even let Hezly compete even once. I totally get it, the routines of the veterans score higher, but I really think the US should reconsider the way they choose Olympic or world teams. A good all-arounder without any chances of making an individual event final just isn’t the right choice imho. Don’t get me wrong, Hezly is an amazing talent and I'm sure we’ll see her winning international medals in the future, but it doesn’t feel right to bring an athlete to the team final without letting her do anything. It was just a bit too early.

They kept whining about how she would “drop out again”…yet she returned and won gold. I also recall all those complaining people completely disregarding all the other American gymnasts who medaled individually in Tokyo, who probably wouldn’t have had Simone stayed in competition (Suni won all around, McKayla Skinner got silver on vault, Jade Cary won floor, etc.) And this probably won’t be Simone’s only medal from these olympics. The best way to deal with haters is to prove them wrong.
