Did these books wreck your mind and leave you to pick up the pieces? Same.
*Heraclitus is the name of the Greek philosopher I was recalling.

Then this ramble accomplished something after all! I feel I barely scratched the surface. I hope you find it as meaningful experience as I did, I'm honestly still a bit rattled from it.

Great video as usual man, I've read Stella Maris some time ago and I was blown away by It honestly. I am so glad someone else recognizes the value of this book!

Thank you, and yeah there is nothing like it. The audiobook version of Stella Maris is outstanding if you haven't already heard it. By the way I picked up Theorem by Pasolini recently because of your recommendation, it's the only work of his I've been able to find locally so hopefully that's a good one when I get to it.

I appreciate you. Maybe "runaway train" is more accurate 😆

Excellent video. And Outter Dark is great, but you should consider going with Suttree for Tennessee.

Thanks for the nudge toward Sutree. I was hoping for that.

Your idea that Alecia is an adversary and a much more dangerous or serious one than the judge is interesting and really worth being considered. When I read it i didn't see her that way. Your understaning of her brings "Stella Maris" very close to McCarthey's "Sunset Limited" (one of his best I think). But she (or McCarthey) does have a point: We never can know whether our logic and math is valid or just shielding us from realizing the truth, because we only can use just that logic to "prove" that it is valid. We are caught in a circle we cannot get out of. I think McCarthey is more of a gnostic than Christian.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. Yes, I thought about it after the fact and the reason I found her to be so adverserial is because she makes it impossible to ignore how we can't put the pieces of classical ideas about the world back together, and challenges us to find meaning in wake of this. So she is not an adversary in the same WAY as the judge, but is far more intriguing and important to our modern scenario. I do really enjoy gnostic interpretations of McCarthy's work that I have heard. I hope to elucidate my ideas about this book further and do it better justice in a future video essay connecting it to a few other philisophical novels.

Thanks! I just now remembered I had planned a whole interpretation of what happens at the end of the Passenger being a commentary on how society controls us overmuch and separates us from the natural world, but that concept paled in comparison with the existential confrontation of our self destructive power (psychological and physical) in Stella Maris. They might be related issues actually. Well, there's plenty of salvage yet for the the other deep divers of these books 😀
