For a normal guy who is just urgently recruited to the Wehrmacht in 1939 there was an alternative. Such people were called anti-fascists and Germans were quite common among them. If you resist absolute evil in the face of Nazism, then resist to the end. @@kurtarnold4050 They didn't have much choice. If the USSR had lost, the entire population would have been exterminated or reduced to slavery by the Germans anyway. They couldn't afford to lose. Vietnam won against the United States but at the cost of colossal losses, losses much higher than those of the United States and South Vietnam, but they still won. The Soviets had the choice between dying on the front line defending their country and having a chance to win, starving to death because of the blockade of Leningrad (by Germany and the current 3 Baltic states), being reduced to slavery, or dying in an extermination camp while having a "shower" by the Germans in the event of the defeat of the USSR. What would be your choice in such a situation, if you were a soviet citizen at that time? Now in Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky criticized the Soviets in WW2 and present-day Russia for sending massive waves of cannon fodder, yet Ukraine is doing the exact same thing in their counter-offensive because they simply don't have the choice, they are therefore doing exactly the same thing as what they were criticizing, it is double standards.

@@XTremeTerrorSquad you do realize that not every Nazi soldier would agree with the ideologies and twisted logics of the Nazi party and Hitler? Some of those Nazis were forced to serve out of fear for their family, and some were genuinely evil. Similar to Russia and Ukraine now. Some Russian soldiers don’t want to fight or hurt anyone, especially since it could be very personal as a Russian soldier having to be forced to attack and kill their Ukrainian friends and (rarely) lovers, but they have to anyway, it’s either that or be executed and put their family in harm’s way. On the other hand, some Russian soldiers don’t give a shit about Ukrainians at all, some would like the opportunity to take advantage of their victims (like how some Ukrainian women said they were raped by Russian soldiers, individual or gang rape) What I’m saying is, wars never had good endings, even ones that prevailed victorious over the opposing side had casualties and losses. War can really mess up the human mind, even to immoral opposing sides. Every soldiers are humans who are being used by corrupt politicians to do what they force them to do. And if a soldier dies, no problem, they’ll just replace that soldier like it’s no big deal. At the end of the day, all people in wars are victims, be it innocent civilians or soldiers.
