2:17 The reason we don’t use the metric system is because of Pirates. We had purchased the metric system stater kit with all the official certified weights and measurements during the second or third presidency but the ship was raided by pirates and so the metric system literally never arrived. Not wanting to spend the time and money a second time while waiting to establish our national official system of measurement we just made our own system.

THIS ironic thing is some europeans like to complain about it not realizing they made the pirates and so its there fault

@Dieselneck732 ай бұрын
@@KarNeoLeX yes science is done with metric but you never know who will read it or where they are from. Also in everything except temperature metric has smaller increments, makes things more exact. Funnily 1 degree Fahrenheit is a smaller change than 1 degree Celsius. We do use micrometers for engine tolerances but again that’s a combination of better for use in small things and most engine parts aren’t made here, but most the first reason

some silly ideas here though, like the last one with the idea that USA removing their military presence from Europe would somehow be bad for European countries because of... spending... on military? doesn't make sense. US troops are there because of US geopolitical interests in the first place.

I will forever stand by the fact that Fahrenheit is a better system for measuring the temperature outside. It’s a human scale based around temperature on earth! You can look at it and intuitively tell what is hot and what is cold. 0 is cold, 100 is hot. I don’t care that water boils at 100 and freezes at 0. Water doesn’t boil in the summer, and it gets much colder than just freezing in the winter!!!
@breakerboy365Ай бұрын
I also like Fahrenheit. I think it's easier to express the temperature in my mind by 10s than by decimals using Celcius.
@dreymak4071Ай бұрын
Large bodies of naturally temperature regulated water will always be cooler than the air temperature, it has to do with how heat doesn't transfer through water as fast as it does air. Water does freeze at 0 degrees, even large bodies of water, however the above also applies to chill. Even though water freezes at 0 doesn't mean it can't get colder still, in fact, ice chilling further is what can make it so thick, since the chill is effecting deeper layers of the water. While I do agree that imperial is a better system for measuring temperature, with how overly simplistic and in some ways incorrect this comment is, I'd hazard a guess that you're part of the reason why people think us Americans are stupid.

@@AidanS99 I don't need to make you look stupid, that comment (and your latest one now) did plenty of that.
