Well the US as a whole, doesn’t really care about football (soccer). It’s treated more as a novelty than something to be proud or excited for when they do qualify and play. Most nations love football (soccer) and put their heart and spirit into their team.

I love how the US have been farther in a World Cup then Mexico in the past 18 years and we didn’t even make a World Cup in that time
@AlexRN
@AlexRN 2 жыл бұрын
Mexico is the most consistent team in the last 28 years of World Cups. Consistently mediocre but consistent nonetheless. What I mean by that is since 94 they’ve been on a 7 straight World Cup qualifications streak and 6 straight Rounds of 16 (but nothing past that stage). The only reason they’re not 7 for 7 is because the 2022 Qatar WC hast been played yet. So yes, USMNT did get to quarterfinals in 2002, but failed to get out of the group stage in 98 and 2006 (and didn’t even qualify for 2018). Mexico went to Round of 16 in all of those Cups. It’s weird.

@@AlexRN Mexico has reached the quartefinals twice as hosts while USA has reached the quarterfinals and the semifinals as non-hosts. Twice as impressive for USA. USA is the only country in the world to medal at the world cup that is not from europe nor south america.

Would take McBride any day at this moment. The US dosen't have quality forwards right now who play for good clubs in Europe. Sargent has potential, but he needs to toughen up a bit. But he is still young though! I am also unsure about the goalkeepers at the moment, but at least the US now have quality defenders and midfielders. McKennie, Pulisic and Adams is the best players the US have right now.

I really thought we were going to make the semifinals in 2010. Just seemed like destiny, especially the way we scored in extra time against Algeria just to make the final 16. Ghana was a good draw and we had such a great chance to win that game, and then Uruguay would have been the quarterfinal opponent, a side that was very beatable, as evidenced by the fact that Ghana should have beaten them and blew the penalty after the Suarez red card. We couldn't have asked for a better draw, really. Just couldn't get it done.

Not sure why Friedel wasn't back (he was great in 2002), but instead of going with a new keeper (Tim Howard named the backup keeper) Coach Arenas brought back Keller as the starter who was a hot mess in 1998. "They're excited in Columbus ..." We still are. Too bad Precourt is in Garber's back pocket to pull the rug out from under us. #forshame #savethecrew And oh look, the one good thing Michael Bradley did in his entire career. Dick.

Unfortunately this show implied the tragic memory of the own goal of Escobar that caused him to be murdered once ge got back to his country.

Those were good years for US football. It was our style of play, north American, more style than Mexico and we could have won the cup we had the teamwork

Wasn’t Escobar killed because of that own goal?
@timothyrosman6371
@timothyrosman6371 6 жыл бұрын
he was killed because there was an incident at a club back in Colombia. Yes, the OG had something to do with it but the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary alluded to the reasons being more to do with the general state of crime.

Poor Brian McBride, his 1998 World Cup goal has to be the ugliest goal in World Cup history. Its a nice diving header, an Iranian player falls on it, Ernie Stewart shoves somebody and the ball pitifully squirts in. No celebration, just a scuffle in the net. Even the commentator's call is bad. "Is that in? Yes. Goal." Thankfully for Flyin' Brian he would get better World Cup goals in the 2002 tournament.

Here's to a new Era of US soccer.. 2002 seemed to be our best squad. Crazy how loved Donovan was then but has turned into a buffoon since being left out in 2014. Put the US on the map as a respectable country, clutch goals in big games. And now cheers for Mexico.... Heres to a brighter future. Pulisic and Weah era is upon us. Hopefully they don't ever play in the MLS
