Our air force (Australian) had the Mirage III back in the day, beautiful aircraft looked very similar to these but without all the fancy fly by wire avionics. God I miss those planes, they had real character.

Yes, Mirage III and Mirage 2000 are very similar seen from the outside. Same size, same silhouette. Not easy to distinguish one from the other. And Mirage III was a very good airplane too 😎🤘

Whether it is on the Mirage 2000's or the Rafales, the refueling probe is always open and can't get in: making one that can enter can causes problems you don't have here : Risk of mechanical/electric incident, preventing it from going out when in need. Requires more space inside the aircraft. Risk of impacting the radar. Would require extra energy to operate. So yes, it is a choice to leave it only outside without the possibility to retract it.

Nah, the system is common to both nations. The problem is from the Mirage. The Mirage 2000D you can see in this video, although this variant is the more modern actually in service in France, still begins to get old. They just celebrated their 25th anniversary last year. So the time has made is job, and you can have some little defaults on the older planes of the 2000D fleet, like this leak on the probe. These defaults are strictly monitored, and mechanics check that they're still in the tolerances, especially with aircrafts deployed on theaters. Sorry for my English which could be approximate, this is not my native language (I'm French, and I work on those beauties, by the way).

Thanks for this video. I have seen the Mirage 2000 a few times over the years at Airshows. very impressive and at take-off sounds Loud and Powerful. As seen from the video, around the connecting nozzle, there appear to be some jets of fuel or vapour coming out. If it is fuel, as a matter of interest, can anyone here confirm this, and would you know what percentage of fuel spillage, would that be? Kind regards.

The only reason there are no more Mirage 2000D over Irak is that it was single engine and it was not worth the risk compared to the Rafale that is twin engine ( safer). And the main mission now is " air surveillance" so no need of M2000D. They are now employed in Africa ;)

There is still mirage. But they are slowly replaced by Rafale. They are affected to experimentation squadrons (2000-D) or they are in air policy missions.

Boeing won the KC-46 contract more than eight years ago and have failed to deliver. They failed their attempt to eliminate competition from Bombardier by having the govt apply unwarranted tariffs. Now the self-certified/MCAS fiasco. Meanwhile, the losing tanker from Airbus is is service. Yeah, KC-135 is old.

+npsit It's not fuel you're seeing. It's water vapor being condensed. Watch a video of an F-22 during tight turns, and you'll see the same effect. Have a great day.

Yeah it happens often with the probe system, but it's reliable and the fuel transfer is really effective, like 100kg/minute vs a leak like 1kg/minute...it's acceptable

Sometimes there is a problem in hose-pipe connection, or the boom operator took his time shutting the pump... Videos of French crews refueling with French tankers show much less leaks too...
