This is the story Carl Lewis doest want told. His narrative has been that Usain never ran below 10s until 2008 so how could he break WRs out of the blue. Carl is both jealous and devious. The part he leaves out is that Usain ran only one 100m prior to 2008 and it was a 10.03. For the life of me i still don't understand why a bigger deal isn't made of that. Who runs 10.03 in their very 1st race? That accomplishment alone should have made news & put everyone on notice. Instead, they mocked Bolt and Coach Mills for daring to put 6'5" in a 100m race. When 6'5" can run 10.03 in their 1st race, anything is possible. Even the impossible can be possible. And that's exactly what Bolt did. He achieved the impossible. Standing ovation 🎉🎉🎉 The best there ever was. The best that will ever be. The Honorable Usain St Leo Bolt: The World's Fastest Human

People forget about bolts 9.76 in 2008. It was at the time the second fastest in history and only bolts 2nd ever 100m race after his 10.03. This was the race that triggered the rise of the greatest of all time.

No true track fan forgets about 9.76. Haters called it a fluke until NY happened. Others overlook it in the same way they overlook the WR in NY because what he did in Beijing so completely overshadowed everything else he did that year, and also overshadowed what everyone else did. The only thing anyone wanted to talk about was if the 200m final was better than the 100m final.
@barath4545

Yes to the 9.76 and the 9.72 but his 9.85 qualifier (or was it 9.80?) in a SF of either Olympics 08/12 or Worlds 09/11 was basically jogging from the 70m mark. That run felt like a 10.20 for any other, but 9.85 or faster for Usain, just UNBELIEVABLY fast first 60m!

@prestonmatthews725 eh. Once people realize that sprinting was not Usain's 1st love, and it was not the sport he wanted to do professionally, I think people would be more inclined to understand why he tried so hard to get out of a distance that caused him so much pain, mentally and physically. It would have been great to see what he could have done in the 400, but I'm okay with not knowing if the tradeoff is 9.58.

From faster tracks and special shoes, it's possible. From human evolution alone, I don't see how. The amount of force it would take to run at that speed would break bones. Based on preserved footprints it's believed prehistoric man got to between 9.2 and 9.3s (don't ask me how they even calculated that as I found it to be incredulous), but even if we do evolve to that point, 8s won't be in our lifetimes.

If the best you've run is 14s and you're 20, this is not the sport for you. Perhaps you might be better at distance running or field events. But if you're from a country with no representation in athletics, I believe the IOC still allows the qualification requirement to be waived so that may be a way for you to make it to the 2028 Olympics. Barring that, you do not have the fast twitch muscles needed to do well in the sprints. You can't train yourself to get those muscles. You have them or you don't, and if you had them, you'd be faster than 14s even without adequate training

Can you people PUH-LEASE know what you're talking about before posting nonsense? Can you? Where did you see him celebrating in this 9.58 race? Where? In fact, other than the Beijing 100m race, he has never prematurely celebrated in ANY of his WR races. Not a single one. He celebrated when he knew was going to win his first senior title, and considering that Asafa had beat him in their last race b4 Beijing, his winning was not a certainty. He got happy. He celebrated. He didn't throw away a 9.4. That's just ridiculous. He threw away faster times in Berlin and Rio because he had party-related injuries which affected his training those years. He threw away faster times in London because he had no desire or motivation to train until Yohan beat him at trials. But never once has he been in a position to throw away a 9.4 time because he celebrated before the line. Kindly get your facts straight.
