You know I am an Army Vet and mostly Welsh. I left service and am currently building a small homestead in TN. I mostly wear utility kilts. Because of the ease of care. But i do want more tartan kilts.

1:23:29 - I should probably be taken to the woodshed for saying this, but as a Scotsman I would highly recommend - Penderyn Single Malt Welsh Whisky - Madeira Cask. It has Aur Cymru (Wales Gold) on the side, highlighting the colour, that its made in Wales and also It highlights the many gold awards it has won. It is also a very smooth drink. can have a sweet and smoke hint to it. it can be very dangerous to a seasoned whisky drinker as it can go down very quickly... not that I have encountered this...

I live on Massachusetts' Cape Cod year-round. To deal with the cold weather (January through early March), I managed to get two pairs of trews - one in Black Watch and one in Clan Lamont (my mother's Clan) - when I feel it is too cold to wear a kilt. Regarding Irish kilts (my father's family is from County Kildare) I just wear the Irish National tartan

I’m a ski patroller and wear my kilt to and from the mountain and will wear thermals under my kilt almost always going but not always leaving. Agree, it’s not a great look. But it works for the temps.

I know this is way over, but I have a suggestion for the comment about swollen legs, how about a piece of velcro hook to just place under the cuff of the hose? If the person doesn't have issues keeping the hose up and just wants decoration, this would be my 2 cents! Thanks for great shows!!

piper brogues- well, I don't wear brogues at all because I'm a 5E. In fact, I have finally given up on any production shoe. you can get some good dressy shoes custom fit, for UNDER $500, from russell moccasins. Any of the good custom boot fabbers at the faires/festivals can probably do a dingle button show with some hole work. might not shine quite the same. military supply stores will have heel and toe plates

Important to remember that irish kilts is more of an irish american thing ,not something people in ireland are into or aware of.Nothing wrong with it and people are welcome to wear what they want when visiting ,its just not the way it is in scotland where its regarded as a national symbol.

Indeed; when I wear a kilt in Ireland, most folks either see me as Scottish or North American. Nothing wrong with it at all ... just a thing.

That's good to know. I am Irish decent. My grandmother was Irisih, born. No Scottish. And then those isles? Can't be too sure. I have come to learn? My ancestry may have moved to Scotland before the 1100s. And then again, there could a lineage that may have not. I am in the process of trying to connect the dots.

I must wear over the knee compression hose. I'm sorry you'll never see my bare knees sticking out below my kilts. For me, it's function over form. Sure I might be going against the norm, but as a kilter, I already am.

Alright, so I found stories of my ancestors actually owning the village of Kirkcudbright in Scotland, and the ancestor I want to design a tartan to honor literally founded a Canadian town (there are buildings and streets with my last name in both towns). Can I technically name my tartan, "Neilsons of Kirkcudbright and Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier?

My family had a long history of marrying Gordon, Stewart, Lindsey, and MacLellan women. If your clan was in the Dumfries and Galloway area, you probably married off your daughters to my ancestors.
