Excellent video showing the feature sets, captabilities, or lack there of, on these USB cables. Its IMO, that the new USB C standard, is indeed far superior, over that of previous standards for sure. Where there's smoke, there's fire, and that cable really had the hots for you! I am sad to hear that not many watched your very inventive DIY speaker build. As you know, I watched it, enjoyed it, and I even answered your question correctly! Hopefully people will pay more attention to your next build!

It's all fun. I enjoyed making the speaker project. The cable on fire was also fun. There was a giant fan just off camera pulling the smoke away. I went extra careful with my safety gear on that one...cardboard plate under the on fire cable, which I absolutely knew would catch fire, haha.

@@AllThingsOnePlace good reviewers deserve the link rewards because they help viewers decide which product is worth the money. Maybe you can contact Anker and the others who score well in your reviews and see if they will send you free products to review? Just keep the review honest to maintain credibility. There's an experienced motorcycle reviewer in Britain, where I am, and he cleverly and honestly gives reviews which aren't too critical. He's honest, accurate, but if something isn't so wonderful he doesn't go on and on about it. I think that lets the viewer make up their minds without annoying the manufacturers. He's Michael Neeves at MCN, Motorcycle News. It's a long time motorcycle newspaper you can buy in the shops in the UK which is now online and on KZbin. Is a very professional tester and he gets sent motorcycles, jackets, and they take them around the world on motorcycle launches. But the viewers still trust them because he's honest without being brutal. Just something for you to maybe look at if you're going to become a well supplied reviewer. And they might let you keep stuff if you'll put it in the background, can be seen using it, etc. I like your style, honesty and thoroughness. I wish you every success.

Hey! I saw that you make great tests and I wondered could you try DeOxit tests? Does it really lower the resistance and does all the other claims (Improves Conductivity, Protects, Reduces Arcing & RFI, Reduces Wear & Abrasion) held true? I have tried myself the red and gold versions (as 100% solutions), and I noticed that they clean oxidation and other gunk (similarly to 99% IPA), lubricate the connections, but I'm not sure are they really good for the electric connections and do they lower resistance by improving contact, nor do I have the equipment to test them out.
@AllThingsOnePlace

Yeah, I use deoxit on older equipment. It does help revive old potentiometers and contacts that are tarnished in some way. On a new device or cable it's not going to do anything but yeah on older connections it can improve conductivity. If a connector is worn out, it isn't going to fix the connector.

So, this video is focused on charging. If you aren't doing power transfer and data is the concern, then getting the best data-capable cable is important. The non-active style cables do tend to be shorter though. I mostly use the Zeexus cable from the first comparison video for data transfers since it works at full speed. I don't have a test jig to do the data transfer testing. I want to get into that though. It's about $20k to get into that side of things, minimum. It goes up very quickly from there.

Theoretically, claiming to be USB-IF certified implies a maximum voltage drop of 0.5V on VBus and 0.25V on ground. Similarly, mfi certification should imply voltage drop is kept below a certain level, although it is not clear what that level is. One site claimed that 3m lightning cables used 18awg wire among other things to ensure quality. By the way, anything higher than 150 mOhm resistance on a 100W cable violates the USB-C specification, since the total Vdrop would exceed the combined Vdrop for VBus + ground. Many of the USB-C 100W cables you tested are not in compliance with the usb-c specification. If it is not a 100W cable, then anything above 247.5 ohms would be out of spec. Technically, a cable can be out of spec and still within those numbers due to the ground requiring tighter tolerances than VBus.

if you're charging from a battery bank, does resistance play a ball on how much recharge from your limited juice supply?

Resistance will cause slower charging as the power the adapter can supply gets lost along the way. With good cables, it's a 1 or 2%, with medium cables 3-5%, with bad cables, fire is the limit.
