I buy the 12v with two 4 pin, but my fan have 3 pin, if i put 3 pin fan into 4 pin usb cable the fan can function or not?

Is the 5v version reasonably quiet? I thought about adding a few of these for my entertainment center, drilling some holes, and powering them trough my console usb ports when playing demanding titles.
