These stories collected by the USC Shoah Foundation should be considered a National Treasure. The historical context and illustration of those times, the spirit, the courage, the honesty, and forth-rightness shows why these fine gentlemen are without peer in the modern age.

These historical interviews are invaluable . Thanks to those that had the foresight to interview as many of these Liberator's as possible for future generations to learn from those that were there . 2021, most have passed on .. !

Indeed, a 21 year old in year 45 will be 76 in year 2000. It's clear that practically zero of them will be alive (or able to be interviewed.) in 2021.

It was still vivid in Kenneth's mind the liberation of the American POWs who were in the Battle of the Bulge. He pitied the POWs that he cried. I cried, too. Great American hero!

I saw an Obit from California some couple of years back. I 'd say he went out to stay with his daughter and died there. The ages matched up and it was clearly a Jewish funeral notice.

I am so blessed & proud to be an American. Kenneth Aran is the best of the best. Truly the greatest generation. The American & British liberators, as well as the survivors, have unparalleled strength & courage. I don't have anything positive to say about how Russian liberators treated civilians, especially women, aside from freeing concentration camps.

I agree that he is charming. His directness and apparent absence of agenda makes him fascinating for me. Doesn’t make a story where there is none, and refreshingly never takes the agenda driven bait thrown at him by the interviewer.

Amazing stories! But in the story with the frozen boots he wore something he called 'gelosha' with 4 pairs of socks what is it and what is the proper spelling? Sorry for this question!

galoshes - an old word for gumboots. It used to be used in the UK but is not used any more there.

@@champloo46 Fine. FYI I did a partial transcription of this interview (it's a lot of work) and sent it to an English teacher in Israel as extension material. As it turns out there is not five minutes of time available in the Bagrut (university entrance examination ) timetable for such extra stuff. Oh well, it was good typing ... I am sure there are electronic means of doing it these days but I don't have access to them. Ken A died in California it appears - I saw a death notice a while back when I was trying to find this interview again. In the interview it is clear he had a daughter in CA so it all makes sense. He was a great guy.

He looked great for his age. The interveiwer didn't realize he was biracial
@erinlevere68815 жыл бұрын
Subversive Control not really because the interveiwer seemed interested.
@erinlevere68815 жыл бұрын
Subversive Control my point was the interviewer assumed that he was speaking to someone complenty Jewish in ethnicity. He seemed interested as well as myself that his father was a person of color. I'm not sure what the issue is with that with you.
@erinlevere68815 жыл бұрын
Subversive Control to you it is not to me or the interviewer. It almost seems like you were a little irritated that I pointed out that he was a person of color other wise you wouldn't of commented so passive aggressively
@erinlevere68815 жыл бұрын
Subversive Control but its ok to speak on it, there is nothing wrong in speaking of peoples enthicity and being interested in it. That's why the interviewer was speaking on his father. Everyone isn't mixed with people of color hun. And me being are person of color I found interest in it.
@erinlevere68815 жыл бұрын
Subversive Control there was nothing wrong with what I said ok hunny. He can be celebrated and people can still have interest in his background too. I notice you didn't care that the interviewer spoke about his Jewish heritage. But me mentioning that he was biracial was moot point

Killing those two germans on the hillside probably cost something like 12 thousand dollars a salvo in 45 dollars. Three salvos involved. I am surprised the officer in charge of the battery allowed it to happen. For instance what if they ran low on ammo later on when they really needed it as a result of this - it's just not economic. Perhaps everyone including the Lieutenants were fed up and wanted to make a racket.
