Ok, I found your videos a few weeks ago and now I pretty much watch them every morning. Your content is great! Thank you for putting out these great videos daily. It is amazing! I'm 5 weeks away from my first International distance Tri (in Seoul, Korea) and a mom of three kids. It's a big undertaking for me and these videos actually get me excited about it and have taught me a lot. Would love to hear more on: -Balancing tri training with family life -talk about your first triathalon - and your friends too maybe? -Would love to see videos of actual triathalons - maybe you talk through what happens while you play video -Training makes me so hungry. I'd love advice for how to keep the hunger in check so I don't just eat all the bread and donuts. -and What do you do if you need to go to the bathroom during a tri?!? -and i love a good fail video

I'm working through a bunch of your old videos on swimming (never really been a swimmer before I started training for triathlon). With COVID closing down all the pools, I have to learn how to do all this in open water, so it's been SUPER frustrating. I get exhausted after maybe 15 minutes and maybe 500y, even with rests every 100 or so (haven't figured out how to get all the CO2 out of my lungs, trying the "take smaller breaths thing but it's hard to get used to).Got a snorkel after watching this video, just swam 1000y nonstop no problem, only stopping because it looked like it was about to start raining. I know. I can't use a snorkel in competition and I need to figure out how to breathe without it. But in training at this stage, it's been super helpful/encouraging to know that I have the fitness to swim far enough to complete the swim on a sprint tri and almost certainly an olympic.

Question for the site. When you're going into T1 do you already have your shoes on the pedals? What's the set up to do that? How hard is it to get in the shoes while riding?

I would like to learn about how to go about making improvements in a single discipline of triathlon while still maintaining the other two. I am happy with my bike and swim times but struggle to improve my run. Do you have any personal or secondhand experience of people who previously had slow run times and how they approached this while remaining injury free? Would like to hear your ideas regarding this issue!

Taren. Could you do something on creating session plans. There are lots of training plans online but not many have a session plan including warm up main block and a cool down (like you do for swim session)

So many questions... Latex tubes? How do you know when you're ready to move up on distance? I.e. From Olympic to 70.3? I was hoping you would discuss transitions for Campeche. So anything about them? Training nutrition? I'm probably over the limit for questions....

Hey Taren! Any advice for someone riding a tri bike for the first time and struggling to feel comfortable, "safe" and balanced? I rode a road bike for two seasons and bought my first tri bike (with a professional fitting) in anticipation of moving up to longer distances next season (long course, half ironman).

Taren: ive steadily improved my swimming from slow to respectable over the last 6 month. For the first 4 months I saw regular improvements but the last two have seen me either stay the same or actually get slower. I swim 5 times a week on my lunch break for an hour and pretty much always do 2.5k in 44 minutes bang on to the second. I really want to get that down to 40 minutes or at least improve the time. ive tried 100, 200, 300, 400 then back down as a set but no luck with improving! Any tips please Sam

I have a snorkel but alas paddles and snorkels are on the unwanted list in my pool (fins and pull buoys are okay.. I have no idea why).. Some questions that I am struggling with: *I am doing several IM 70.3 races this year and I am thinking how to plan my training, do I do a full taper or keep training (and do a half taper). How much time between two races (I have 2 that are 2 weeks apart and I am very tempted as it is a great way to catch up with people, but I do not want to injure myself). Mind you for these two finishing is the aim (doing them for fun). Would also love to know more about travel and training. *I have been looking for a local coach but being in a country where I do not speak the language does not help. So for now, how to best draw up a training plan? This is nay second year and I have already started structuring my training more (first year was more a do as I feel like) *For work I fly intercontinental, 4-5 times a year 2 weeks at a time (and several trips within the region, but a 4 hour flight does not even faze me anymore). How to most efficiently do my training (hotel pools are tiny, and bikes in the hotel gym horrible). Lots more but I am sure you got your hands full. As always thanks for the videos, they are a great inspiration...

alexandre di pisa take your time, don't rush it or you may forget things and get a stupid penalty, like leaving your helmet before you put the bike on the rack. If it's your first you're probably not there to win, so taking 30s more if you need them won't change your race all that much

Luis Luque rule of thumb: over the throat, you can, under the throat: don't bother. A running nose isn't particularly annoying when running or cycling and it doesn't last long if you treat it immediately (eucalyptus FTW).

I need help with using a snorkel without a nose plug, I keep on breathing in with my nose. How do I breath with my mouth and not my nose???
@DaveHebert400
@DaveHebert400 3 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert, but maybe try breathing in through your mouth and out through your nose on land to try to get your body used to breathing only through the mouth? You might also try adjusting the fit of the snorkel. I had some trouble with mine (it was way too low) at first and found that the flexible part near my mouth was a little bit pinched.

How do you manage your running so you don't get injured?
@xGshikamaru
@xGshikamaru 7 жыл бұрын
Tom Cantwell get a good mid foot strike so your feet can play their role in dampening the shocks, do core training exercise once a week. Add stretching like yoga or myrtl routine especially if you work in an office, your hips and lower back are fragile, increase volume by 10% at most every week, and listen to your body. Sometimes it's better to skip a workout than outdoing yourself and develop an injury. Run economically, as if you were running on egg shells and you don't want to break them. It takes time, if you're a heel striker you will probably need 3 months to adapt and your calves will be sore after every one of your runs but it's worth it. Your knees and IT bands will thank you for that.
@martijnvreys2910
@martijnvreys2910 7 жыл бұрын
Great insight by xGshikamaru, I can very much relate to that. A solid core routine (I would say at least twice a week if you have a history of injuries) is essential, and foam rolling a few times a week can help as well. As for running form, you definitely want to stay away from heel striking (has helped my knees a lot) but beware not too push it too much in the beginning. Your calves will and should be a bit sore after every run, but if you don't let them recover sufficiently you might get shin splints. It's always a matter of balance.
@xGshikamaru
@xGshikamaru 7 жыл бұрын
Martijn Vreys Yeah that's a good point, I remember having such a hard time doing back to back days of training, you want to let your calves recover from that. It wasn't so much about the thin splints for me but my Achilles tendons got quite stiff and I suspect one could easily get tendinitis if they overdo themselves, or worse. On the plus side after your body gets used to that your calves could probably be strong enough to run a 100k in a row :)
