Use and Proper Cleaning of a Nebulizer and Inhaler

Okay. Somewhat helpful. Here's what I now know. Nebulizers: 1. Don't get water in the tubing. I think compressed air might help clear it out if need be but I would hook u the machine to the tubing and run it for 2-3 minutes before attaching a cup. 2. Most nebulizers come with extra air filters. My filters were yellow but turned brownish in time. Keep them with the machine. I use a drawstring bag to store it with all the accessories. 3. The baffle seems to be the part responsible for creating the fine mist. 4. I think that overnight vinegar water soak 3 parts water to 1 part vinegar, would help eliminate build up in the cup and baffle. Inhalers: I would look elsewhere for info on this. Maybe some people spray before hand but I doubt that's a major problem. There are a few different type of inhalers. Some disperse a powder and some disperse a liquid. The powder style are tricky. When you are trying to get the powder into your lungs, through your wet mouth, your tongue will be in the way. What I would recommend is a spacer. You can ask for one with an inhaler. She claims that there is an area in the chamber to become aerosolized but I think she may be mistaken. The spacer is, essentially, a large tube that connects into the inhaler mouthpiece. It creates a large chamber for the powder or mist to "float" so you have a chance to take a breath. Otherwise you are basically spraying these things onto your tongue or the back of you mouth the first 20 times or so. I guess the pharmaceutical companies understand that but why take your chances? The spacers are usually covered but you have to ask your doctor for it at the time of the prescription. Pro Tip: I was on Advair but I was able to eliminate it when I cut down on my sugar consumption and increased my protein intake as well as getting a good air filter for dust. I have a COPD and it seems that this, and almost every other respiratory illness, has a link to sugar. If you want to test it try a Keto diet for a few days. You should know in about 3 days It's the first fad diet that I think actually makes sense because you are focusing on your blood sugar.
