I wrote my own essay without being anywhere near chatgpt or any AI programs. when I pasted my essay on chatgpt and asked if it has written it. Chatgpt said, “Yes, this text appears to have been written by me.” So it is very inaccurate in its assessment of its own writing. If teachers use this method to sniff out AI generated texts, it would be unfair!

i see.. yeah im not sure how ChatGPTs own detection method works but I did try a couple of the detectors and a good amount of them can detect AI text, so i usually just stick with the majority result from all the tests combined from the different sites, and theyre usually pretty accurate. not 100% though

@@JeremysTutorialsn was able to use chat gpt to write 80% of an essay but I used a paraphrasing tool and also edited some of it myself and it comes out as written almost entirely by a human on gptzero, only one sentence was highlighted. Do you think I can get caught, no plagiarism detected either lol

@@SirAuron777 I mean if youve edited a good amount of the parts yourself and paraphrased some stuff; I would best believe that you will be fine as that text also contains your original work as well. Not 100% on this though, but I think you'll be fine. You've pretty much just used ChatGPT as a tool rather than a copy-paste generator which is good

AI detectors don’t work. GPTZero included. It didn’t detect AI when I gave it something 100% AI generated. It detected AI when I gave it something 100% human. Terrible! And it’s scary to think you can get “caught” when you didn’t do anything wrong.

yeah I can see it being inaccurate for the time being but I think theyre still feeding it data to improve it over time. I can only assume the accuracy will improve over time, but yes I agree they may not be as accurate as they should be at the time being

@@JeremysTutorials Either that, or we are just in an infinite loop of an arms race between the AI essay generators, at the AI detectors, and the people who end up screwed, are the very people who are honestly writing their work with genuine intelligence. AI detectors are as much a psuedoscience as lie detectors. They generate false positives all the time, at rates that are scientifically unacceptable.

Perfect video! This is exactly what I was looking for. I wish it had shown up closer to the top of the search results. I was looking for a video to share with my Comp I students about the effects of relying too heavily on Chat GPT to complete coursework but also as an example of what I want them to do for their upcoming assignment. Because of the increasing number of AI-generated submissions I've been getting, I wanted to open this semester with a group research project in which the students create informational videos, presentations, pamphlets, etc. about how to use AI ethically for coursework, their audience being fellow college students. Honestly for me chatGPT is only for inspiration. I literally get like one body paragraph from it see the info see if that is correct do a little research and lightly base it off of the AI one. U don’t just copy and paste :))

I think if youre using it for grammar mistakes, you should be fine because it's still esentially your writing, not the AI's.

im not 100% sure if TurnItIn will give the same result. Each AI detectors may have different algorithms in terms of determining A.I. text that may vary different results. Just because it says "human" on one site doesnt guarantee the same on others. I also assume the algorithm gets better over time and more accurate.

None of what you said applies to my local University we don't have discussions in class only lectures and assignments that we turn in at home online and my professors really don't care how well your work is I wrote so many half assed essays and got full credit for them and I have turned in a couple using chatgpt of course I read them myself before turning them in and passed both classes I don't care about "learning" anything from these classes because they are totally irrelevant to my major the only reason I am in school is to get a piece of paper that says I majored in computer science regardless of the fact that I know more about my specfic major than some of the professors I had 😒

well in that case im glad it works out for you since the professors dont really care abt what the students write, which is very common considering some of them only profess for the money and not only that but it can get tiring for them to read each and every single paper. the point of the video was to spread awareness that tools such as turnitin or gptzero are now out there to catch people using A.I., not saying its implemented in all academic systems as it varies but its an ongoing trend now. i 100% agree with you that some professors dont know what theyre talking about and as a software engineer, 90% of the things i learned at school are irrelevant in the things im doing, so i definitely feel you on that. cheers

true in some aspect but some of the tools mentioned are already publicly available for free and i don't see why professors can't copy and paste that stuff in there. Paid services that colleges use such as Turnitin or other plagiarism checkers are also starting to implement AI detection as a package to their already existing service.
