"Don't use super-darkness, that would seem contrived. Instead always use heavy fog and creatures with tremorsense!" Okay, got it.

I like this! As a player, I'm now thinking of methods I can either lower the dewpoint or raise the air temperature. Ahh... now it's a meteorological arms-race! 🙂
@phdnd-drbowers3 жыл бұрын
Ah, that's clever! I wonder if the storm sorcerer, storm herald barbarian, tempest cleric, or other weather-themed subclasses would have a leg up in that race! Cheers!

Blind sense works in fog cloud.

Fun fact, if something can see with tremor sense but not blindsight or another sight, it is still blind, it just knows where they are standing. In other word, still disadvantage
@phdnd-drbowers2 жыл бұрын
Ah, this is a good point!
@justinc59672 жыл бұрын
You can also use creatures with pack tactics to remove the disadvantage of being blinded.
@almitrahopkins18732 жыл бұрын
Don't the members of the pack have to be able to see each other for that to work?
@asheronwindspear5522 жыл бұрын
As the DM it doesn't even need to be fog. Heavy rain, snow, smoke all could be used to obscure the sight of the PC's.

Burrowing or invisibility can also serve as alternatives. Also, really harsh lights or flashes.

Ah, good points! Indeed, a burrowing bulette is a danger in the dark, even moreso in fog!

I have a fun spell “CamoFlash” - you cast & then roll a d20. Odd number makes you invisible, even number forces all creatures in a 20 Ft cone (not behind full cover) make a saving throw or be blinded until the end of your next turn on a failure or until the end of their next turn on a success. Get it….camouflage…camoflash? Get it?

Enemies don’t know the player characters like the DM does. They use the techniques and tactics that most likely work for the threats they are worried about for best cost. Purposefully countering your players special abilities they paid heavily for is a dick move unless there is a damn good reason.
@IgnoreMeImWrong Жыл бұрын
Fog Cloud is cheaper and more effective, why would enemies not want to do that?

Very late, but heavy fog/rain/snow/smoke can also circumvent True Sight. Really good for higher level creatures, as it will either take an Action from them to clear, or give your party an oft-unexpected advantage.

I would make half an argument, that while it says solid objects. I do believe it would not be too unreasonable if a warlock player who picked Ghostly Gaze to be able to use it to see though fog.

By RAW, if you can't see them and they can't see you, advantage and disadvantage cancel out and you attack as normal. But that is dumb. So I rule all attacks must be made at disadvantage.
