Use Half the Epoxy In Your Table Project

How to make an epoxy resin table in your shop using half the epoxy. We all know how expensive epoxy can be, so I came up with a way to get the same look of a table twice as thick while using half the resin. I have never seen this done with an epoxy table before, but people have been doing it forever with granite and marble countertops. Not only does it save a lot of money, but it saves a lot of weight. In this video I show you how to make the entire table, not just this bull-nose trick too.

I agree with you. Not having proper legs on a table "TO ME" can drastically raise the value of your project or cheep legs drop the value of a project. it is like having a VERA WANG make a dress for someone but then the model is wearing dirty old tennis shoes when modeling the dress ( well in todays world of clothes modeling that may be considered CHIC but you get my drift ) .

@@ryanhanslo3029 he’s said in the past that it is to seal the wood so it won’t be stained by the epoxy when he pours. That way he only has to do minimal planing and sanding afterwards to have the natural wood figure and coloring exposed

@@TheHuntron2000 if the epoxy seeps into the wood, even plaining and sanding won't save it. The edges get "blurry" because the wood gets dyed black by the epoxy and there isn't a sharp line of contrast anymore

I love the way you made this even with the butterfly edge. It turned out spectacular. I went to look at the table legs and wow are there a lot of designs, you weren’t kidding. I find your videos by far the best on YT. I’m an experienced woodworker (over 40 years) and think I can say that you do everything in that difficult balance between perfection and yet still needing to make a profit. Perfection takes so much time that you end up working for nothing; “good enough” is never good enough. I don’t see any other maker go into such detail about each step; the method and the reason plus taking the time to list out everything used. For instance, I suspect many YT people would not tell us where to buy those legs but keep it to themselves. That really annoys me - I don’t like videos which just say “look how great I am”; yours say “here is what I do; here is how I do it and here is what I use” I’m not a great fan personally of heavily refined pieces. However, I do accept that they are a great way to use pieces of timber which otherwise would be scrap. People like them at the moment but fashion is a nebulous beast. I don’t know what will happen when the fashion changes. Please maintain the very high standard of your videos. The quality of camera work enhances the quality of the work you show.

I've been watching your videos for some time now and have watched most of the earlier ones. This table and the "trick" to save resin is great. I think the legs are perfect, especially if it's used as a desk. You have inspired me to branch out from turning resin and timer pieces to making my first river table, out of walnut no less! Walnut is not so common in Australia and you have to be in the right place at the right time to get some. A friend cut some slabs for me from his walnut tree that died of old age and they've been sitting in the rack for a few years. They're a bit wormy but that adds character (doesn't it?).

I've been binge watching your videos and I really like this table a lot. Love the way you did the edges to double the thickness. Personal opinion on the "mistake" is that I loved the look of the mistake before you "fixed" it. I didn't see it as a flaw or mistake at all. I don't really care for the bow-tie - but that's just me.

There are no mistakes in life in my opinion, only learning moments. What I think would look really nice is IF you ever have to cover up another “Mistake”, instead of using a bowtie, you can somehow make your double X into an inlay & use it as your makers’ mark to cover it up. I don’t know if that makes any sense. The table looks absolutely amazing.

Nice trick, however it's possible to see a mirror pattern on the sides. I say that because I saw you doing it :) and if I didn't see it I probably wouldn't have noticed.

Yeah, the only thing I would have done differently here, would be to get the very ends of the timber vertical, so that when cut off and flipped the vertical edge would carry through to the underside.. That would be as easy as marking a line,cutting it back half an inch or so, and then hand shaping from the cut out to the live edge..

There are so many perfection videos out there, which are great for entertainment but don't really show you what's real and how to think outside the box to deal with the inevitable breakdowns in any major project. THIS is what I really need to learn to help me build this house I've wanted to build for the past 30 years. You can bet there will be a hella lot of "breakdowns" throughout that process!
