Probably the best informational video so far on HSR. I’ve seen all Sampo and Kafka videos and anything DoT related. I have a pretty good grasp on the subject even the Normal and Break DoTs. Small note that not everyone knows regarding the physical dot The dmg cap on the physical break works ONLY on the dmg that occurs when you break the physical weakness , it doesnt apply on the Physical DoT itself . Ty for the amazing intro to DoT

With that said I'm still rolling for Kafka, was hoping to play her together with Serval but from what I've heard that's unnecessary now because Kafka can put shock on her enemies by herself. universal damage bonuses seem to not always apply to DoTs, like with the lightcone that was used as example 'good night and sleep well', it specifically states that it applies to DoTs, which not all % increases say

Got introduced to a DoT team recently for SU against Svarog… Have since been building up my Sampo because I want ti see how DoT teams will operate outside of SU AND see if it’ll be a viable way to me to continue to reach more endgame content! It also helps I just unlocked Sampo’s E1 as well! Gonna he going HAM to get Kafka (though I’m a little bit bummed out that her pre-Beta ability to apply DoT weakness got removed… still excited for her though!

I passed by the communities both in hoyolab and random groups. some of them think Effect hit rate better, while some said focusing on break effect is much better for dot characters. ;---; It is kinda confusing right now, lol. i would like to point out that the normal dot which is innate to a certain character stacks with other characters dots of the same type, currently you can only do this with burn. So you can have Astas Burn, Hooks Burn and Himekos Burn active on the same enemy at the same time. Which also means that you should be able to run servals shock together with kafkas shock aswell.

Very nice video, although I had to play it at .75 because I am an old bear of little brain. LOL At the comparison discussion you start at 9:39, you do a comparison on Serval between a no buff and a Lightning Damage buff. Something I have been trying to figure out myself since a lot of the guides and the Hoyo Wiki itself doesn't give me an understandable answer is this: if you have a DMG+DoT DPS that states that their element damage is a percentage of their ATK, the math would state that +ATK/+ATK% gives higher output than a +element dmg and so, is this different with DoT dmg or does it depend on the character's skill/ult/talent? Everyone and their mom argue on whether X should wear ATK gear or Element gear. I've been liking your videos more because they give both a logical discussion then follow up with a visual comparison. I'm very much a math guy, so such examples work great with me. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Dmg% is pretty much always gonna be better, having stats multiply with each other is simply better than stacking one of the same thing, for example my sampo has about 3k atk, if i were to change his sphere into Atk, it would only give him like another 400 atk since his base atk is arround 1000, which means it would only give me about 13% more atk/damage. A Wind Dmg sphere however would give that 38,8% dmg increase which is alot better. Both stats may have diminishing returns, but the Dmg% stat is alot harder to come by while Atk is really easy to stack.

Maybe I'm doing my math wrong, but if a skill says "Element = 120% of Atk", wouldn't a %increase in ATK give a higher number than a %element damage increase? As a small dolphin (I do the the monthly $4.99, the better rewards on the battle pass, and the Herta fuel purchase when available), I just want to be as effective and efficient as possible. Thanks for the explanation. Guess I should just bite the bullet, pull up a spread sheet and just do the math with each of my playable characters.

@@TenNoZeorymer72 well if you only had 0% Atk and 0% Dmg% increases adding another 40% to either one of them would result in the same thing. however you can only run Dmg% on your Sphere which means that you could either run 4 times Atk% or 3 times Atk% + 1 time Dmg%, and since 3 times Atk% + the extra Atk from Hands is already a massive amount of Atk. addiing more Atk than this isnt gonna change much. Simply put Dmg% is very Similiar to Atk%, but because you get alot less of it and Atk% and Dmg% multiply with each other it simply becomes a more desireable stat overall.

I recently looked into this. All I could find is that in the beta, DoT's snapshot. This means that attack buffs work on the DoT only at the moment of application. So if you buff your unit after applying DoT, it will not increase the damage. Logically the same goes for defense reductions and vulnerability but I did not test this myself.

How is that logical? It is logical that buffing a character after a DOT effect has already been applied to an enemy will not increase it's damage, that's fine. In this same vein, it is completely logical that reducing an enemies resistance, defence or making them vulnerable before that DOT deals it's damage will also increase it's damage. The enemy now receives more damage from all sources. BTW this is 100% the way it works, Pela, Silverwolf, Sampo etc will all increase the damage of DOT's even after they have been applied.

Skill DoT is dynamic. Easiest test you can do is after applying DoT, use Tingyun's Ultimate buff. And, the damage increases. Basically DoT calculate it damage after it tick, not after it applied. You can buff your DoT just before they're triggered (either by Enemy turn or Kafka's skills). Weakness break DoT on the other hand is Snapshot (at least at the moment, because there's still no Break Effect buffer to test). This is because Break DoT don't scale with the units stat except for BE.
