People just want to know which setting you test on with an ordinary meter.

highly appreciate the videos. I'm no electronics guy or mechanic for that matter but have an interest. currently troubleshooting why headlights keep burning out. and i let the ads play all the way thru for videos that I can appreciate.

How can you tell there's a short? What number should you look at to know its a good ground

Thanks for all of your help.My system is fully installed and I have zero engine noise.I have other problems though that are not related to wiring,etc.

Really straight to the point and easy to follow, unlike other commenters this helped me tremendously.

You are correct, it's a Fluke AC89

1. We don't care about the test light since the title of the video is "how to test using multimeter" 2. You don't even mention what setting to set the meter to. 3. Don't waste your time watching this video because it is not helpful at all.
@Unknown-hl7sb6 жыл бұрын
Greg Chan he said what it's set to but it would like he said I set the meter to read "mmpeanuts here" he said the word a couple times but I don't think I've ever heard that word lol

Unknown LMaO. Mmpeanuts
@RaulTM234 жыл бұрын
Unknown The word he is pronouncing w a strange accent plus poor sound quality is IMPEDANCE ... to find the proper ground you have to measure IMPEDANCE aka measuring the resistance (unit ohms). Lol “mm-peanuts”

I think the special automotive wire tool that he used was the Fluke AC89.

I dont understand what you were looking for when checking ground? You held leads together and said you saw a break or whatever..tell us exactly what numbers we're looking for

What's the best way to check ground resistance for a aftermarket amp install when the battery is all the way up front amd amp ia in the rear ?
@dial2fast9 жыл бұрын
Try to locate a factory ground bolt. Usually there is one by the tail light area. If not, find a bolt such as by the seatbelt to check resistance between those points and your aftermarket amp's ground.
@BrakelightWarranty9 жыл бұрын
dial2fast that is what I'll try later today. Thank for replying! Some have said to use the factory ground bolt, any thoughts?
@dial2fast9 жыл бұрын
Joe Ramos The truth is you don't know whether a bolt in the back of the car is a good ground connection back to the battery by looking at it. That's because the whole car is welded and glued together so some panels are better grounded than others. You can always temporarily run a piece of wire from the batteries negative terminal to the back to connect to the multimeter. Then using the other probe, put it on the bolt or panel you are testing and check for resistance. Have a look at my other video here which may help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHS9lnWubZmNfLs

@effsixteenblock5010 жыл бұрын
When you do the actual test for ground, it would be helpful if you told us what the output of the multimeter is supposed to say. It would also be helpful if you told us what impedance range you set the multimeter to before beginning the test.

Hi, I have just finished making 3 new and improved videos on using a multimeter to test voltages and ground on a vehicle. You can click on this link to see the first of three videos: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3q9hqmKrrR6d80

he admitted it was a bad video and didn't give proper info and after 9+ years the video is still wasting people's time. He also said you can go check out 2 or 3 other (of his) video's to get the information needed instead of telling the commentor the needed info. What a crock of bs

Hey,quick question for you.If you check the voltage on a circuit(like an amplifier)and it reads 12.7ish does that mean that the ground is good?In other words,is that another way to check for ground besides measuring resistance?....Thanks for your quick responses thusfar.
@dial2fast7 жыл бұрын
Check the voltage direct at battery, and check voltage direct at the power wire at the amplifier. It should be the same if you use a heavy gauge wire.
