I like how mindfulness meditation benefits the rewiring of the mind. It takes time, but it worked for me. A book called 30 Days to Reduce Anxiety by Harper Daniels was a huge help.

This video plus information from your other anxiety related videos and live streams helps more than you may know. I am currently diagnosed as having social and general anxiety disorders and schizotypal Personality disorder. The way you explain helps people like me understand and incorporate this knowledge and these methods quite rapidly. Just over 48 hours ago my house caught on fire while I was sleeping or as I woke up, I don’t really know. I am with my 6 animals and gf in hotel freaking out about what we are going to do. I decide to check KZbin for brain related stuff. You are one of the few I currently follow and learn from. I saw this and decided to watch it. About the point you are talking about catastrophizing, I noticed my anxiety dissipating. By the time you got to breathing I was back to calm rational thinking. The breathing method I already knew and was subconsciously doing. When you mentioned it I became aware I was doing it, if that makes sense. I am now sitting in the car smoking a cigarette while processing what my next steps will be, without worst case “what if?” scenarios dominating and triggering emotional reactionary thinking. Thank you very much for your desire to help the layman utilize tools they aren’t aware exist or aren’t aware of how they can be used. For example: your early videos on neurochemistry are building blocks I use when contemplating how things affect me and how I am affected by my own thoughts. The awareness of the methods of operating allows for visualizing of how each factor influences actions and reactions.

Hi Bruce, first of all I’m so sorry to hear about this. I’m glad to hear my video could help in some way, but the truth is that the emotional strength to make it through this is already within you. I know I’ve never met you, but through these interactions in the comments over the years I almost feel like I know you. The fact that you are already focusing on your next steps rather than catastrophizing means that you will find your way out of this and into a brighter future. Keep tending to your own mental health and wellbeing. Keep practicing that breathing exercise when you need it. And remember that you will not only get through this, but you’ll also grow because of it. And please don’t hesitate to reach out if you’d like to bounce ideas off of someone. Sending my best wishes your way. - Andrew

@@senseofmindshow thank you. I have a sense of humor and a desire to improve. I’m not only thinking of how to best move forward. Im acting on some of those thoughts without overloading or spiraling. It has surprised me over the last few days just how calm and positive I can be in stressful situations. Comparing myself to just a few years ago (before I really started to try to understand the brain and the hows and whys of thoughts and actions), i have improved or taken back control of parts of my life, leaps and bounds further than I was consciously aware. For example I had not left the house in two years more than 10 times. None of those times more than 3 or 4 hour In length before social anxiety overload. I have been out, been to busy stores, and even socialized, all successfully. The fire event itself may be a negative event. But I think it also gave me the needed push to notice how much I have improved in a few years already.

I agree with some points of your explanation when you try to explain the technical side of the process. You say that anxiety is a biological mechanism to prepare the brain and body to identify and confront potential danger in the environment. Where does this mechanism come from if it prepares the brain for these tasks? It should be above the brain to manage it (i don't mean location!), do you understand what I mean?
