Wikipedia:
"Dynamic range compression (DRC) or simply compression is an audio signal processing operation that reduces the volume of loud sounds or amplifies quiet sounds, thus reducing or compressing an audio signal's dynamic range. Compression is commonly used in sound recording and reproduction, broadcasting,[1] live sound reinforcement and in some instrument amplifiers."

Thanks for the good reviews. The use of EQ in audio processing is a very important part. there are many instructions for using the DAW, so I didn't go into that part. I'm more oriented towards working with the keyboard. Here I explained how eq works in the keyboard. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rIHdnIx-qZ1joLM To use EQ in audio processing, you will have to look for another channel.

Danke, immer wieder interessant.

But I did spend a lot of time when I first got my SX-900, to setup the Master Compressor. It was by "trial and error", and "by ear". However, I did notice something that helped a lot, and that was watching the Yamaha demonstrators like Gabriel Aldort, and Peter Baartmans. If you watch and look very carefully at their videos, they sometimes show a very brief screen shot of their Master Compressor, while they are playing. I noticed that they had the Compression set all the way up to 100, and low values for the Texture setting. Somewhere, I read a comment that said Yamaha is using only "Moderate" compression on the Master, and 100 is not doing anything severe! so, on the Texture setting -- I personally have the impression that it has an effect on which frequencies get compressed. Low values seem to affect the low frequencies, high values have more of an effect on high frequencies. That's just my impression, from my hearing! So initially, I used a value of 50, right in the middle. But after experimenting, I chose the value 16, and overall, it sounds very good to me. Compression = 100, Texture = 16, and then adjust the Output for a good recording level. Thanks again for all of your valuable information! Jerry

Hi Jerry. Thanks for the advice and for the Master Compressor settings. I will try a little more to try out your settings. The Tyros and PSR S series have a different type of compressor installed. If set too aggressively, the main signal would sometimes be reduced, attenuated. This created confusion among the players as they felt that the keyboard was not correct. I think that’s the main reason why Yamaha put a parallel compressor on the main L / R.
@JerryKolata
@JerryKolata 3 жыл бұрын
@@CasperVideo Very interesting, I'm glad the SX-900 has the parallel compressor. It brings out a lot of nuances in all the Styles, just need to adjust track volumes and panning if needed. Sure, give those settings a try, and please let me know what you think. It was trial and error, just experimenting! You've given us the best explanation for the compressor, better than Yamaha!! LOL

Dear Casper, thanks for a very informative tutorial, as usual. I have a question regarding recording a MIDI song, as I feel that it involves some compression (it happened in my old PSR 2100, in my Tyros4 and it happens in my new Genos as well). Each time I record a new MIDI song, then when I hear the recorded song, the volume of at least the solo instrument is automatically slightly reduced (some instruments sound with lower volume, especially the Solo instrument). I have to say that I have not set any overall compression. - If I did then I always had to hear it, not only during MIDI recording. It forces me to drastically increase the volume of that instrument in order for me to re-record it and then hear it better (and stronger) than the rest of the background instruments. For example, you can hear it significantly when you record many instruments (big orchestra) and you want that solo piano (main solo instrument) will sound stronger than the rest of the orchestra (in other words, you want that the piano will sound as a solo instrument should sound when you play a whole orchestra). I compare it to songs I play in real time and record it directly to a digital recorder. - In this case the song sounds exactly as I want it to be with the original volumes that are absolutely great and the solo piano (as an example) is strong as I want it to be. So, it feels that the MIDI recording uses some kind of compression. Have you faced this problem? Is it possible to cancel this phenomenon that automatically reduces the volume?
@CasperVideo
@CasperVideo 3 жыл бұрын
The problem is in the strength of the signal you are recording. It should be set so that it does not exceed 0db and then the recording should be fine. To be able to answer more accurately, I need to know which method you use to record MIDI. Do you do this on an internal recorder on the keyboard or do you use the audio interface to record on a computer?
@LahavZur
@LahavZur 3 жыл бұрын
Dear Casper, yes, I use the standard internal recording of the Genos. You can significantly notice this phenomenon when you record a whole orchestra and you want your solo instrument, let's say, a piano, to be heard much stronger then the rest of the orchestra. I use the standard volume of the style (100). I have not changed any original settings. I guess that if it is a compressor problem, then it would have effect the overall sound. So, what I usually do is I set the volume of the solo instrument much higher than when I play in real time. This helps, but still always leaves the problem. It is funny to say, but I save a registration-set for a real-time performance and a separate registration-set for this same song recording. When I record a real-time performance directly into an external recorder, I obviously hear it as I play it in real time. When I record it using the Genos recorder it strangely lowers those volume levels, as there is a kind of compressor.

@@LahavZur I think you will solve the problem if you adjust the recording level on the Monitor slider. It is set to 90 by default but from my experience it should be between 65-70. It is important that the LEDs do not enter the red area. As you may have noticed, the problem only occurs when multiple channels are playing at the same time. All their signals add up and together they are too strong. Not a problem to the compressor. Attenuation occurs because the recorder has a built-in limiter that prevents distortion during a strong signal. Try and let us know how it worked.
@LahavZur
@LahavZur 3 жыл бұрын
Dear Casper, thanks for your kind reply. I might miss here something. What do you mean by "Monitor"? I don't use an Audio-Recording. I use Genos standard Multi recording method. The volume level I use for the style is the normal (preset automatic) level of 100. Is that what you mean that I have to lower to 65-70?
@CasperVideo
@CasperVideo 3 жыл бұрын
@@LahavZur I seem to have misunderstood you. I thinked you’re recording in Audio Mode. There is a Monitor slider and it determines the level of the recording signal. If I understood correctly, you are using MIDI multirecording Mode. Record one part in it first and then record a new instrument that should be louder (SOLO) afterwards. And there is a atenuation in it that creates a problem. I didn’t notice it happening to me. This phenomenon could be related to the setting of the master compressor. But you say don't use it. Is he completely off? How do you listen to recorded MIDI? Headphones, external speakers via MAIN or original speakers from Genos?

Tehnički to izgleda ovako.
