I have an extra ASUS ax92u that i use as a travel router. Repeater mode worked great in a hotel i was staying in for a few days. On my phone connected to the hotel wifi was only 5 mbps down. I connected my ASUS router in repeater mode to the hotels wifi i was getting 50 to 70 mbps down and 20 up. Plus when hotels try to say only on or two devices are aloud to connect via wifi per room connecting a router to it seems to trick the hotel network as it only sees the router connected but not the other devices connected behind it. Repeater mode is a great feature!

Thank you for the clear explanation on mking a repeater out of an unused Asus router. I have an AC1750 and wanted a router to use after troubles with my Google Nest mesh kept acting up. This allowed me to dig out the Netgear Nighthawk X6S to use as the main wifi router and now the repeater can be used to help reach the far rooms. Hopefully! Again, thank you!

Thanks for taking the time to make this useful video. I'm currently battling with a Ring Doorbell Pro 2, which won't connect to my home wifi, because my house is built of brick! I tried a Ring Chime Pro, but that was a waste of money and time. My solution, being a retired "computer guy", is to find a technical solution like yours. My wife has a different approach: throw all the technology away and install a big brass door knocker. She may be right. Thanks again!

Thank you. My only mistake was to misinterpret the term "Wifi network password". I thought it was the password on my main modem. Microsoft has a site that led me to the actual network password, created by me five years ago (and forgotten). Other than that, this helpful demo was great.

I have same router AC1900. I found an issue you didn't mention clearly in the video. When AC1900 connects to main router using 5G band, my device can't connect to 5G band set up in AC1900. Devices connect to 2.4G band set up of AC1900 work very well.

I have a ASUS RT-AC58U but I don't find the repeater option. It's either wireless router or AP option available. There is a WDS section which it can function as a repeater but I just can't get the config right.

1- Make sure that your router has Repeater Mode 2- Make sure that your router is running Asus-WRT and not Merlin-WRT 3- Update your router's firmware

When I connect my RT-AX3000 repeater to Verizon’s CR1000a main router it will connect but after a while it will stay connected but no internet, but when I connect to 2.4g channels it all fine, it will remain connected. It is Frustrating 😅

Install Device Discovery from Asus website and run it on your PC. In Device Discovery, select the repeater router and login in to it. There, go to Administration, Firmware upgrade and enable automatic firmware upgrade or just upgrade the firmware manually.

CAN YOU use the same SSID for the repeater as the main node? I want a config where clients roam using same SSID. EDIT: Asus support says you can have the same SSID. The article said you might have (unspecified) roaming problems. Seems to be a real advantage, and roaming works with mesh routers. Have you tried this ?

Yes. My main router is a DLINK and my converted router in repeater mode is an ASUS. What i did find though is that some ASUS routers don't have a repeater mode, only an Access Point mode which will require a physical connection to your main router.

Your repeater needs a clean connection to the wifi it is repeating. No Internet means the repeater is not connected to the main router. Move the repeater close to the main router. If it works now then move the repeater farther away until you lose signal, then move it back closer. Essentially the repeater must be where you can still get signal from the main wifi router. If moving the repeater next to the main router still gets "no internet" then (1) verify you can get internet through the main router wifi connection then (2) start again with the rest of the repeater and repeat all the steps.

For some reason some routers drop connection when connected to the 5g of the main router, try connecting to the 2.4g of the main router and see if problem goes away
