Great guide, thanks, although I'd always recommend a ethernet backhaul vs a wireless one, not only will it perform faster and more reliably, it'll free up wifi capacity on your routers.

Ethernet backhaul is overrated. I have a dualband with wifi backhaul (on different levels of my house) and it performs perfectly. I dont want cables through my whole house like it is the 90s. If i really would notice performance issues in the future, I will buy a triband router instead. But absolutely not needed yet.

@@FS-flash it might work fine for you but it doesn’t change the fact it’s using wireless capacity and bandwidth which it wouldn’t with an Ethernet cable, and you’ll be carrying an overhead on ping which if you game. I'm hoping that I won't have to use the Ethernet Backhaul Mode (5:29), but que sera sera as they say.
@OzTm Жыл бұрын
Actually, IMO there is absolutely NO situation ever where Wireless Backhaul Mode performs better than Ethernet Backhaul Mode. The cable connection offers much greater stability, usually much better speeds, no bandwith sharing (especially on older, doual band models). The ONLY reason anyone would want to use wireless backhaul would be if they can't connect the two units with a cable (for instance, living in a rented space, so you can't drill holes into the walls :) )

Your great guide enabled me to setup my two node (RT-AX55/RT-1800S) wifi 6 mesh system without a hitch....mostly. I am experiencing some speed issues. The ISP provides 1,000 mbps but a speed test at the parent router indicates a little less than 800mbps. My 5GHz devices are getting a little less than 300mbps when located right next to a parent or child router and the 2.4GHz devices get anywhere from 35-70 in that same kind of location. Is there a setting on the router that can speed things up at the device level and to get a speed at the router that is closer to what is provided by my ISP? I am not using a VPN on the ASUS RT-AX3000 parent router (I had one setup using another one of your great guides but deleted it) because that bogs things down even more with all devices regardless of which band they are assigned by the router (I have smart connect enabled on my parent router). Also, all nodes show a great connection to the parent router which are both backhauled to the parent directly and are assigned connection to the parent using the 5GHz band.
