I have a few things to mention that I did not mention in the video that might help you out if you're having any issues getting your camera to work as a webcam. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ ZOOM - Make sure that you have updated zoom to at least 5.1. If you don't, then Cam Twist will not appear in the video settings. CAM TWIST - If your image is looking low resolution go into the Cam Twist preferences and play around with the FPS and resolution. - A good starting point is 30FPS and 1280 x 720. You might think 720 is low quality, but it looks incredible in comparison to a normal webcam. YOUR SONY CAMERA - Make sure that your camera is in Movie mode on the top dial. - From what viewers have said, THIS METHOD does not seem to work with the a6000 at the moment. I do not personally own an a6000 so I cannot test this for myself. - There are other ways to use the a6000 as a webcam, but they typically are a hassle to make work. - If anyone has any helpful tips to get that specific camera to work with THIS METHOD please comment below :) Hopefully this helps :)

@@mah5255 As far as I know you cannot use the camera audio for this method. There are however a couple of options. 1. you could run the Rode directly into your computer with a cable like this amzn.to/3jegYHU However, the one drawback is that you would need to use headphones or external speakers in order to hear the audio coming from your computer. You could use the standard apple headphones if you wanted. - Macs are a bit funky because they don't have a dedicated mic input. So if you don't have external speakers or a set of headphones that you like, then this method may not satisfy your needs. 2. You could purchase one of these cheap capture cards amzn.to/3gDASdI It's like $23 and would enable your mic and camera audio to feed into your computer since it runs over HDMI. - This is actually what I use now instead of the Camera Live and Cam Twist method because it's easier and more flexible. - I'll be making a part 2 of this video soon talking about this capture card. It's only 1080p at 30fps, but that is more than enough for the majority of people and I've never seen a capture card that produces such good quality for such a cheap price. 3. You could always purchase a USB mic to use for your computer, but obviously, you'd be limited to what you could use it for. Unless... if you happen to have the Rode Video Mic NTG amzn.to/2D4JFYx then I think you can just run that to your computer over USB. Hope that this helps Mark!

@@srgnt23 quality isn’t as good as elgato’s. I’ve tried this method with the camtwist, sony’s imaging edge webcam software and the camlink4K. Sony’s webcam software is buggy and camera live would sometimes go from “ active” to “camera error”

Thank you so much! Had freezing and lagging issues with the Elgato Cam Link 4K and my Sony A7C camera. Had to use a micro-HDMI-to-HDMI adapter out of my camera, then a HDMI cable, then the Cam Link, then a USB-to-USB C adapter and then plug it to my new M1 Mac Book Pro. I think it was too much so that the image froze every few minutes or barely worked at all with OBS. Your solution works perfectly fine! You need to adjust the resolution inside of your cam twist preferences. 1280x720 is normally a good starting point and it looks really good.

Hey man, I hope you find this message well. I cant get my Sony A6600 to work on zoom or loom. The only camera option is limited to "FaceTime HD Camera" 1. The Camera name comes out as "USB PTP Class Camera" on The Camera live app. Not sure if that matters but I wouldve assumed it would turn up as the camera name. 2. I also dont have a "CamTwist" Option on the syphon server (just Camera Live) Could any of those be the problem? It works well on OBS and even on Image Edgeing Desktop. I restarted everything. Unfortunately the Audio from the camera does NOT transfer over USB. You’ll have to use an alternative solution like headphones with a mic or a usb microphone.

Jessie Lee I think that’s a good idea if you’re going to be be streaming for more than an hour. Even my a7iii - which has the bigger Sony battery - could die a couple of hours of continued use.

I going to try this with my A6500 as I do a lot of design proposals these days. Have you had any lag or audio problems? I would be running USB to my dongle connected to USB-C?

From my experience there is a slight audio delay with this method. Normally the people are in my meetings are so impressed with the video quality that they never mention the audio lag lol. You can fix the delay in OBS, but then you have to find the proper way to send OBS to your virtual meeting software, which can be a bit cumbersome. If you are concerned about the audio delay then I would suggest going with a capture card. Luckily there is a very affordable option on amazon amzn.to/3gDASdI It's like $23 and this will also enable your to use the audio from your camera feed into your computer since it runs over HDMI. - This is actually what I use now instead of the Camera Live and Cam Twist method because it's easier and more flexible. Hopefully this helps.

Thanks, man! Nice summary and approach. Using a7ii worked like a charm the first time. Unfortunately camera live tool went to "camera error" after about an hour and could not recover. If anyone experienced the same - please comment. OBS with Sony's remote control still works too as a backup plan.

Hey Andrey, sorry to hear that you're having some issues. I haven't personally experienced the issue that you described so I can't really suggest a solution. The only thing that comes to mind is when I've had my battery die on me I get a camera error. Out of curiosity, what camera mode do you have the dial on top set to? I typically run mine in movie mode.

@@ZacSopak Tried movie, auto and pretty much all other modes. Like you mentioned, I also feel like if battery goes lower than x% - camera error comes up, however mine never recovered.. Anyway, using OBS and screen capture works, perhaps one day sony will start supporting Macs better :)

In CamTwist, CameraLive did not appear as an option (In fact there were no options available in the Syphon server). Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks for putting this together and sharing! I’m finding that the video quality is poor however.... worse than my iMac FaceTime camera... any ideas on why that would be? I’m wondering if it’s as simple as the USB cable.... I’m using a USB-C to USB-A cable and the iMac is top spec, so shouldn’t be performance related....

AnteaterUSA try switching your preferences in Cam Twist. I find that changing my FPS to 30 and my resolution to 720 is a good starting point even if the camera is set to24 FPS a higher resolution. Hopefully that helps :)

Zac, I'm trying to use on a Mac mini, which means no built in camera or mic. This worked beautifully for the video, but I can't grab audio from the camera mic. Am I missing something, or is this solution designed for picture only? Microphones are in short supply online, just like cameras and capture cards.

Hey Joe, I'm happy to hear that the video worked for you. Unfortunately, this method does not allow for audio transfer over USB, but I have a few suggestions on how you can get the audio to come through... 1. you could run the your camera mic directly into your computer with a cable like this amzn.to/3jegYHU However, the one drawback is that you would need to use headphones or external speakers in order to hear the audio coming from your computer. You could use the standard apple headphones if you wanted. - Macs are a bit funky because they don't have a dedicated mic input. So if you don't have external speakers or a set of headphones that you like, then this method may not satisfy your needs. 2. You could purchase one of these cheap capture cards amzn.to/3gDASdI It's like $23 and would enable your mic and camera audio to feed into your computer since it runs over HDMI. - This is actually what I use now instead of the Camera Live and Cam Twist method because it's easier and more flexible. - I'll be making a part 2 of this video soon talking about this capture card. It's only 1080p at 30fps, but that is more than enough for the majority of people and I've never seen a capture card that produces such good quality for such a cheap price. 3. You could always purchase a USB mic to use for your computer, but obviously, you'd be limited to what you could use it for. Unless... if you happen to have the Rode Video Mic NTG amzn.to/2D4JFYx then I think you can just run that to your computer over USB. Hope this helps!

Got the ZV-1 in order to use it as a webcam for Zoom, but the charge it's getting from the USB cable is not enough, so after a while, it runs out of battery and shuts down. Details: - I use the "Imaging Web Edge Webcam" software on MacOS, - I get similar behavior both with the USD cable that was in the box and a slightly longer one I bought from Amazon. - Actually, with the long one from Amazon, it seems to be running out of battery faster. - I've connected it directly to my mac mini which already has many USB devices. Actually, when I tried to connect my iPad after that, macOS complained about an accessory that draws too much power (the ZV-1), so I wonder if I just need to plug everything else in a powered data hub, so the mac mini provides more voltage to the camera. My expectation was that if I had it plugged-in I could be doing videoconferences for 7-8 hours per day-not that the battery would run out after 50min. I also wonder if the people that are talking about how an amazing webcam it is, are using HDMI for data and are only powering via USB.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with power. I would normally suggest purchasing a dummy battery for continuous power, but it doesn't look like anyone makes one yet. It is possible that running the signal out over HDMI to a capture card can improve the battery life, but I can't say that for sure because I have never tried it.
