Can anyone tell me please, How can I connect to server using ssh What I have is Username Host Password Port - 189-- And a .TXT file having private key and when I open it it have long key having written on top Openssl private key Now can anyone please help me how to connect As I am unable to connect to it, as I don't know the process well. Need steps I can do it on Linux as well as windows bit preferred Linux/ubuntu

I was giving the private key and the pub key for work- how do i go abouts connecting to the server? should I just add them by copy and paste to my existing .shh ?

If I rename id_rsa files during setup I then have to log into my server as such: ssh -i .ssh/xxxx root@xxx . Why is this and how can I fix?

-i says ssh to implicitly use the private key provided within the command. One more possible reason maybe be that there are multiple keys in your system and without giving the right key the system starts trying all the keys and gets timeout. Therefore in that case implicitly providing a key makes it easier for ssh to find which key is required to login for that server.
