Hey I know this is a older video But great simple flies you tied up there ,,,, I do the same and tie my own flies but I always add weight to get them down in what ever water level i want faster . Lead wraps or barbell eyes is what i use ....thats because most of the time I'm using a floating line . But I do use a sinking line depending on what I'm doing too .... Ok my 2 cents and thanks for the video !

Dude these are awesome! I just started fly fishing, I’ve done tons of fishing since I was a kid. Tying buck tails and jigging the river for smallies, drums, walleye anything that bites. Just got into fly fishing! It’s so hard lol, my casting is terrible, I’m keeping at it. My goal is to catch one of the illusive Illinois musky on the fly. I don’t see much fly fishing in Illinois, got an orvis encounter 8wt but I have no clue what to use in the river, I’ve been practicing my casting at ponds but I want to hit the river so bad. I jig it all day but fly fishing is way out of my comfort zone.
@TheFlyDudes4 жыл бұрын
Tony Davila awesome man! Stick with it. Such a rewarding style of fishing and way to catch fish! And good luck with the musky! They’re a pain but awesome fish to experience!!
@Im118ish3 жыл бұрын
An 8wt should be practically overkill for the river løl...just confirm you have adequate weight fly line to compliment that relatively heavy rod (1st thing I think when ya mentioned trouble casting)..next would be leader construction-if ya don't have expensive tapered leader material I'd suggest using cheapo mono of a few sizes: like from fly line to(nail knot) 30lb 18" long to(blood knot or double-uni knot for all mono2mono connections) a piece of 20lb 18" long to a piece of 10lb 18" long then finally to your tippet like at least 2' to your fly. Less about following my exact materials/lengths ,&more about the tapering dimensions of each successive section of line helping "turn over" your fly

I just got my first fly tying kit, can you use any brand hook? Like something off the shelf at the local fishing shop or is it better to find more specific hooks for flys? I ask because I’m in central FL, in my area we don’t have much of a fly selection. Mostly spinner stuff. I’ve got an hour drive to the closest fly shop. Thanks and can’t wait to try your patterns!
@TheFlyDudes3 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can use any brand hook! If you look up fly tying hooks online, you can also find them that way too! Sizing is weird, but for central Florida and bass species, you’d be good with anything size. 2-1/0 I’d assume!

These don’t require any weight to get them down deeper in the water?
