Very helpful video. Thanks! I see that you drop the paddle after your opponent hits a dink in your yellow zone. I've seen another way where you drop the paddle earlier...in your ready position. I think your way allows for quicker movement to react to different shots coming at you. For instance, if the ball is coming at you at your green zone forehand, you can react more quickly to return it if you start without a dropped paddle, as you do.

Cool, thx. Thought it would be good to know the grip. I sometimes just go eastern backhand to get more spin, and can deal with forehands in the same grip, but agree, continental is more optimal.

great tutorial, thanks! am an ex table tennis player transitioning to pickleball and would like to learn to do the backhand flick. Would you keep your wrist locked when you flick in pickleball as opposed to in table tennis you dont.

Correct me if im wrong, as im still trying to add both to my game, but isn't this a backhand roll shot? seems like your rolling your paddle over the ball with your elbow/shoulder whereas a backhand flick uses less topspin and more wrist flicking

A roll does not use wrist motion and more of a low to high arm action

And no elbow. When showing the last few shots at the end of the video, he's adding a slight elbow snap to increase paddle speed too. I'm under the impression that the flick is a more powerful shot and better for a middle/high ball than the backhand roll

Continental. It's also effective to hit the backhand flick out of a slight eastern backhand grip, but you can't really hit forehands from this grip so I don't recommend using it as it would require you to change your grip at the line.
