Good to know Robert. Little details like this help a lot. Especially with thinners and solvent liquids. Or items like sharps. I buy #11 blades in packs of a hundred, and they come in plastic cases. One side of the case is designed for the used blades. When the case is full of used blades put them in a zip lock bag and then write Sharp's on both sides of the bag.

I have always disliked dealing with paint mess and cleanup. Cleaning the lids as you use them and lining the paint booth with poster board is great. Cleaning and preparing for the mess in advance is the best way to stay organized. These tips have really helped so much. So many other channels that I watch are so sloppy and grungy that it makes them unpleasant at times. Thanks for all the videos. 👍😁

I agree, cleaning those bottle top threads and caps is a pain but it helps preserve the paint. I have model master brand paint almost 300 colors that are still good to go. I also will add replenishee and Leveling thinner to the mix to keep them usable. But keeping the bottles air tight is the real secret.

Use the ashes from your fireplace or fire pit and it’s free! It’s also great for oil spills on concrete floors….

My local water dept. has said to put any liquids in a bucket to dry and put into garbage. This far better than down the drain as the place where drain water is cleaned has many issues with these chemicals, (water based or other). No, not even pure acrylics
@bobrivett764510 күн бұрын
Mine too. I don't dump anything down the drain or toilet.

I've been using Zep for that purpose. As a mechanic and model builder the Zep works like magic.

Very cool to talk about this stuff. It's the kinda stuff we use in the automotive repair industry. Basically whatever we can get cheap and in bulk to soak up oil and antifreeze and hope it doesn't stain. Because setting oil spots on fire never becomes less scary for me lol.

When I was working I used to get "Speedy Dry" (an oil absorbitant made from crushed walnut shells) from work. I used to change my own engine oil. When I was a kid this was used in the gas stations I worked in to clean the concrete floor. We would crush it like stamping out a cigarette, sweep it up & throw it in the garbage. It cleans up spills very well. I now use it to clean up after I clean up after bicycle drivetrains cleaning (twice a year). I use old plastic milk jugs with no problem. I let the used stuff sit in a pail for a week (outside) to make sure it's dry. I used to bring my solvents to work & dump in the recycling drums, but retired now & changed over to citrus (organic) based cleaners. I like your Frosty in the background.
@bobrivett764510 күн бұрын
Frosty looks cool. Found one on amazon that almost looks like Robert's. Gave it too my wife, who paints nut-cracker figures this time of year. She's almost finished with little Frosty.

Thanks, Robert. That was very informative. I was fairly certain acrylics could go down the toilet or in the trash but I was trying to figure out solvents. Everything I could find said to take it to my local dump/depot so I was wondering how you dealt with all your used paints and thinners.

my biggest problem was disposing of dirty IPA from things like 3-D printing, which had suspended resin in it for example, what a pain to get rid of I finally ended up evaporating in the backyard and then finally once it was fully cured from the sun, dispose of it that way, but what a pain
@bladerj10 күн бұрын
just melt it and use it to fill in gaps.
@itsagundam799 күн бұрын
@bladerj how do you melt a liquid? Do you know what IPA is? Isopropyl alcohol.
@cjadams74349 күн бұрын
@@itsagundam79 yes i’m talking that.. not beer LOL - i evaporate the ipa and then the sun hardens the sludge.. which you can than dispose of in normal trash since it is then inert.
