Overblending is easy to do with this technique. You only need a couple of swipes with that mop brush (or blush/powder brush in my case) to get good results. If you're doing more than 5 swipes with the brush it's probably too much!

I use pure lavender for layer one. Walnut oil for other layers.. Turpenoid natural for brush cleaning and a tiny bit for paint thinner. Non- poisonous . Might need slight ventilation . The lavender very strong odor but NOT. Toxic to breathe or on skin.

Actually acrylics need some ventilation too, there's offgassingbthats harder to smell but can still affect us
@TTundragrizzly3 ай бұрын
@@danielleo6855 mostly to those that have allergies. Some acrylic paints have heavy metals so getting on skin can be hazardous. But some acrylic brands have removed all heavy metals from their products. With a little research, someone using acrylics over oil is far less likely to be toxic enough to cause any damage. But if you think about it… almost anything in life now can cause some sort of harm… All cleaning sprays, some deodorants, etc. The point is, it’s nearly impossible to completely avoid it… So artists might as well enjoy acrylics indoors and not stress about it…

I use an antique perfume atomizer using Only distilled water. Don't want minerals from drinking water or tap water messing up the tip. This works great as the water comes out like fog, no droplets at all. I use a 1 ounce misting bottle if I want a heavier spray or if it I need to wet my watercolor paint pans. The mist bottle does not have an adjustable nozzle as I have forgotten to adjust other ones back to a mist and... oh sh...oot. lol As always, thank you for posting. Love your work!

Great insight!! Thank you! I started painting about 3 years ago when I took a stray cat in and he had to stay in my garage until he was dewormed due to other pets. I spent 3hrs or so a day with him and was bored. I purchased acrylic paint and brush at the dollar store when they were a $1. Flat canvas too. But I first started painting in the back of pet food boxes with white back grounds. Sucked up a lot of paint. Now I paint w nice acrylics from myartscape and I also tried oils that took 6 months to dry on its own. Now I can attempt to finish it. 😅 Great stuff with the gloss and the water mist!!

There’s also the need for ventilation and tougher clean up for oils. I was taught to paint in oils years ago but I have used acrylics nearly exclusively for decades now. I actually enjoyed using a dry brush technique with oils because I like a lot of texture, but the reason I use acrylics is because I can do mixed media and experimental water techniques, photo transfers and more that I can’t do with oils. Granted, my work combines drawing techniques, sometimes integrates collage, and doesn’t rely on an overly “painterly” look. I have become accustomed to working in layers in acrylics but the slow drying time was one of the things I liked most and miss about oils. I do use a variety of mediums to get different effects and high quality paint, like Golden or Charvin and acrylics have improved much over the years.
