It's important to use water wisely, especially during the summer months. Kerri Williamson met with Regional Water Providers Consortium’s Bonny Cushman to get simple tips to help us do our part. To learn how you can use water wisely at home and outside this summer visit www.regionalh2....
1. Do a summer check-up on your watering system. We’ve been watering our lawns and gardens for a couple of months now. Take time today to make sure that your system is working correctly. Taking 5-15 minutes today will help you use water wisely for the rest of the summer and could make a big difference in your summer water bill. 2. Use WaterSense labeled technology to water smart. If you have a sprinkler system, check to see if it is a WaterSense labeled weather-based irrigation controller or smart controller. The controller is the brains of your sprinkler system, and when programmed correctly, can help ensure that your landscape gets what it needs and is watered efficiently. Many water providers offer rebates for these items to their customers. (Visual: WaterSense label)
3. Summer is a great time to replace your emergency kit’s water supply. Experts recommend that you store one gallon per person per day to last you for 14 days. Water should be replaced by the best by date for store-bought water or every six months or so for water stored in your own containers. Be sure to use your emergency water to irrigate your garden or for an upcoming summer camping trip when it is time to replace it. (Visual: Water storage containers)
