Your DIY irrigation video is how I found your channel a few years ago. It was the best DIY option I found, and I've been using it to water my lawn ever since. I've even evolved it to be 6 zones all set to hose timers and the result has been a lawn that looks just as good as my neighbors who have in-ground systems. So what I'm saying is "thank you!" for putting that video out there and for all the great videos since!

What was your total cost?
@DBCooperIsMe
@DBCooperIsMe Жыл бұрын
@@baxt1412 It's a little hard to say what my total cost has been because I tweak the system a little bit each year. But if I had to make an educated guess, it's probably around $650-$700 in total for all the hoses, heads, nozzles, timers, etc. This year I upgraded some of the hose sections to PVC that will just stay in place over the winter. That added some to the total cost, but now requires less effort to manage. And the total cost is still considerably less than a fully installed in ground system.

In California where it’s sandy loam, a lot of us have 2 times a week watering restrictions. Fescue seems to do the best dealing with it being 110 and watering 2x a week.

@@bruceshort8854 Thanks man, Root health is critical and any diseases and fungi will cause pretty drastic setbacks. Mowing high kind of works but if its 4" height of cut, the sprinklers also have 4" height so that creates problems too. It's definitely doable with the deep soak method but I envy areas that get some rain lol

I renovated my neighbor's lawn in the fall with perennial rye. We're in East Texas so I'm expecting to do a transition to something else when it gets hot. For the time being it is pumping. Do you think growth regulator, humic acid, and carbon applications could remotely be able to extend the growing season of PRG in the heat of Texas?

my old man use to bend a rebar into a heart shape and weld a street ell to the middle of the heart shape. one side of the elbow would have the hose fitting adapter and the other end pointing up would hold the sprinkler head. This way if your soil was dry hand hard you didn't have to try to push in a spike into the ground plus you can keep the water on and pull the sprinkler around.

Cool season grass here. I water the edges every night because I get heat from the driveway and on the street people's dogs urinate there and they walk on the grass. Seventy five percent of the lawn is in shade all day, so I don't water as vigorously there. I use wetting agents. Hydretain, and shampoo. The last time it rained for 3 days last week, I got a few mushrooms. Lat night I laid down some humic and fulvic acid, mixed with shampoo and phytoplankton. Mowing every two to three days and watching the lawn creep into areas with less grass. No weed control this year. Grass density is very high and it's choking them out. Mowing one level up. Almost all other homes are burnt along the curb and infested with clover, creeping Charlie, dandelions, and little fern looking weeds. All of our lawns were cut by telecom to bring lines to the house. All neighbors have a yellow strip to their house. Mine bounced back right away and you can't see the burial path. The lawn is very easy to take care of once you get a routine. It is less work and a pleasure to work on. Have a sharp blade for the best looking cut. Thanks for all the tips Ryan.

Square spacing is extremely uneven. Areas will have 2x, 3x and 4x overlap. Triangle spacing has only 2x and 3x overlap. Using 3 heads on a rectangle is more efficient than 6. You have more difficulty in wind with 3 but the coverage with spray heads is better. VAN heads are also better than fixed nozzles. Rainbird plastic impacts with the coloured nozzle pack are also the most uniform at full distance. Clean jet with a tight arm angle side spray. Almost zero head flooding at the base.
@user-fp5px4hm1q
@user-fp5px4hm1q Жыл бұрын
Also, rainbird plastic impacts can be adjusted for low pressure by using the 2nd spring clip that can be changed with fine needle nose pliers.

In addition to good watering practices, I recommend applying Hydretain during summer months. It helps the lawn retain more moisture by capturing water vapors that isn't available to your lawn, that are formed when your ground water evaporates and condensing them into water droplets which your lawn can use. The chemistry is similar to how to desiccant silica works. Note that you will still need to water your lawn, Hydratain will not magically create moisture, it does make your watering more effective by capturing some of the water vapor from your ground water that would otherwise be wasted.
